TashaB, We used a workshop in Quasis last week (off Bagdad street) after DH reversed into a pole outside our compound. We didn't know to call the police so didn't have a pink slip - he managed to get quotes from a few different workshops there. Good prices (compared to UK) too.

No problem, TashaB Just wanted to add that from my understanding, workshops don't really care if you have the pink or green slip - they just want to see that you have A slip because it confirms that the accident has been logged in the police system and was not a hit-and-run

I'm hoping that I can just pay for the repair myself by showing the green slip. Does anybody know anything about this possibly? I have been in two minor accidents and gotten the pink slip once and the green slip once and both times chose to get the repair done myself instead of through the insurance because I couldn't be without a car for too long. The first time, I used a workshop in Sharjah. And the second time, I used a workshop in Rashidiya (they even had a pick-up and drop-off service). Unfortunately, don't have their number any longer but would recommend that you look around in that area - the mechanics are reasonably priced and no questions asked

I got the green slip when somebody hit my car when it was parked, therefore not my fault, but when I went to renew my Insurance, the premium had gone up so much that when I questioned it, they said it was because there was a claim in that year even though I hadn't been the one at fault!!! I did argue and argue it so much so that they reduced my premium. This was with Axa. In fact, I haven't had the damage repaired (a year later) as I am fearful that my insurance premium will escalate if I do when I have to renew. I'm hoping that I can just pay for the repair myself by showing the green slip. Does anybody know anything about this possibly? What is the point of insurance over here?!!!

I wouldn't worry about no claims bonuses, either. I had an accident a couple of years ago that [b'>was[/b'> my fault (note: do not drive when exhausted) and basically wrote the car off. The same insurance company insists in my current insurance that I have something like 5 years no claims; every year I point out this is not the case (in writing, just to be clear...)... last renewal, they told me 'oh but that was a different car; you haven't had any claims on [b'>this[/b'> car'. ??? anyway, so the whole insurance thing just seems to be different here.

Don't think this is true - some very rich and local (and hence VIP) friends of mine have been in similar situations where no other vehicle was involved and they got the pink slip too and the insurance company didn't make a fuss about it either - if you get someone to read the arabic text for you, you'l see that the police writes in detail about the accident so that the insurance has a clear idea about the circumstances And, I'm also pretty sure that if it had been the car of one of the vip local families that attend the school that was hit, then things would have worked out differently.

Today as I was leaving work on my lunch hour the security man opened the gates to let my car out, I drove forward, he had walked away from the gate by now and the wind blew the gate which then smashed into the back of my lovely 10 month old car and dented the side, knocked the bumper out and scraped of a lot of paint! The police came, took my details and gave me a traffic report so I can claim my insurance. However, my friend then told me that as they gave me the pink slip this means it was my fault! I can't see how they think it was my fault and don't want to loose my no-claims or pay the excess, is there anyway I can appeal the decision? The policeman kept both the white part and the green part with him before driving off. yep always your fault if noone else to blame, they cant get the gate to pay up. had a friend in ad who had a hire car, first day here, windy day, sign fell off road and hit her car, she got the blame as it cant be the signpost now can it.

...if his job is to open and close the gate to let cars in and out throughout the day, and each of the other security guards open the gate and hold it until the car has gone through and then they release it, then I don' t see why it's not his fault? I know I'm in a better position to pay for it and I don't have any intention of complaining to the company as I wouldn't like him to lose his job or any of his salary but I do personally think it was his fault. And, I'm also pretty sure that if it had been the car of one of the vip local families that attend the school that was hit, then things would have worked out differently.

a friend of mine was hit last week in a carpark and got dished out the pink slip because she had fully comp - what a joke! Thankfully when we were reversed into last year, and we were not at the car but some kind person saw it but didn't have the details for the police, we got the green slip ....

I can't believe that people think it is the guy's fault!!! :\: However , lesson for all of us - ask the gate guy in future to hold the gate? Then if he lets it go it is HIS fault.

The flip side: If the wind blew the gate then it could be viewed as an act of nature not the irresponsible inaction of the security guard. Realistically do you think the security guard has the ability or the means to pay for the damage? Is it worth pursuing the guard or his company when it is likely he will lose his job. And ultimately isn't this what insurance is for? Accidents.

I'm not surprised. The security guard won't have vehicle insurance you can claim from so it has to come from your insurance. It's like hitting a wall or a post - your insurance has to pay as no other vehicle was involved. It might be worth contacting the security company, as others have said, or lodging a complaint with the police, to see if you can get some (at least) of the costs covered. ETA Sorry, it sounds like I have no sympathy, but I'm cross on your behalf :( edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 06/03/2011

Oh dear, that's really too bad. I would be annoyed. Can you contact the security at your office and explain that it's the guy's fault. they might be willing to go halves on the cost of repair if you make a stink edited by SwissGirl on 06/03/2011

I feel your pain. I had exactly the same experience when I was handed a pink slip at the scene of an accident that couldn't possibly have been my fault! Knowing how annoyed I felt when I found out, I can only imagine your annoyance when you got a pink slip for a gate hitting you. Unbelievable!

hmmm thanks Shamat and yea, I guessed that would probably be the case. I wish I had known in advance that the pink slip meant guilty!! I actually smiled and said thanks when he gave it to me!

Oh haylbop, you poor thing. Its one of those frustrating Dubai things that make me grind my teeth with irritation when I hear about them. As far as I'm aware, there is no way of contesting this, unless you'd had an outright argument with him on the spot, which probably wouldn't have worked anyway. How very frustrating.

Surely it's the security man who didn't secure the gate's fault?!
