i am currently 7 weeks pregnant and my hcg levels have not doubled in the last test. now doctor is insisting for another scan, i just had before start of 7 week, says if she doesn't find heartbeat then ....(i dont want to think about it). few other docs whom i have consulted back home are suggesting to atleast wait till 9-10 week to listen for heartbeat...this period is so stressful and scary for me. i have been strictly told not to take any stress :( , trying my hardest... please share your views and has somebody gone through same thing? i am a microbiologist myself but currently all my education has left my mind and it has become completely blank !

http://stages-in-pregnancy.com/beta-levels-in-early-pregnancy.html http://www.babymed.com/tools/hcg-calculator Hey there. First of all don't panic, easier said than done, I know. How sure of you on your exact dates? Do you know EXACTLY the date you ovulated? Do you have irregular or longer than normal cycles? The reason I'm asking is that most doctors date a pregnancy based on the first day of your last period. This works perfectly if you have a 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14. If you don't, then this dating is not accurate. The problem is that most people do not know the exact date of ovulation. Usually it is around 14 days before when you usually get your period (but can be 10 - 16 days). If you know your ovulation date then go back 2 weeks exactly before this and this is the true ACCURATE way of dating your pregnancy. There may be quite a difference between this and going back to cycle day 1 (first day of last period) as doctor's like to date a pregnancy as they won't believe you know your ovulation date. If you have an irregular cycle or a longer than average cycle then this could well explain why they haven't detected a heartbeat yet. Normally a heart beat is detected between week 6 and week 7 but to be sure it hasn't been detected then you need to be absolutely sure your dates are very accurate. It's very common to be out with your dates. This is why some doctors are suggesting you wait til week 9 - 10 to re-scan and check for a heartbeat. They want to be sure your dates are correct. Now with the HCG levels it's commonly bandied around that HCG levels must double in 48 hours to indicate a viable pregnancy. This isn't quite true. OVer a certain level, they can take up to 96 hours to double and that is completely normal. Check out the Babymed link and other one above. If the levels are actually falling, then I believe that is not such a good sign. Good luck, I have my fingers crossed for you. I know the waiting is just horrible.
