I am due to come over late august, for hopefully kids starting school in Sept from the uk. Says it takes 6 weeks to ship, and conscious if stuff lands in august it will be Ramdan.
Did you ship when you flew over to move? Or shipped a few weeks before - dilema to have no stuff for a while before we leave or no stuff for a while when we arrive.
How did you juggle it, kids with no beds etc.... Any advice appreciated. Thanks

we too arrived last august and the container arrived 2 days before me, we didnt have any problems with it arriving during Ramadam (we used pickfords from the uk). The container left the uk in July and took 4 weeks, DH was already in Dubai and had a blow up bed and cheap sofa and table and chairs from ikea and I stayed with relatives in the uk once the container had left. we brought our white goods here also. So it can be done with just living with basics for a few weeks.

well, we had a month in a furnished hotel apartment as part of our package and then we moved into our empty apartment. That first month was a struggle. I had thought that I had planned to the inth degree...ie: didnt ship beds, sofa's etc as wanted to buy new and therefore would have them while we waited for our shipment. Had it all sorted right down to new linen, towels etc and bought cheapo kitchen stuff that then became our camping kit. Forgot about fridge and washing machine though, duh! That month (took over 8 weeks for our ship to come in) 'camping' in the new flat with a toddler and a working hubby with no fridge and no washing machine was the pits. Next time I will ditch the whiteware, and buy new at the other end, otherwise it's all do able.

I sent my husband first to find a villa, wait for the shipment and get the beds and kitchen set up. The children and I waited in comfort at home (with relatives) until all was ready. :D Yep, he's a good man!
