Has anyone come off of these injections? I recently realised I had been on and off (mostly on) the injections for 9 year and I was advised it was the worst thing could ever inject into my body. My last injection was due early May and as yet the "flood gates" - apologies - are yet to open. Does anyone have any experiences or advice? Im obsessed about carrying my "bits" with me just in case and trying not to wear light clothes, its getting ridiculous! I was less stressed getting the 3 monthly injections ..... and I dont like needles.

Thanks ladies, I knew you would make me feel better. I loved being on the injections too, despite hating needles in general. Its a tiny needle and over really quickly and the nurse at GMC were always lovely too. I liked the safety and convenience of them mostly, but now Im single again and working on my health and fitness to lose about 30kgs (9kgs down ...), this is part of the healthy new lifestyle. and not an immediate issue. Ive heard stories of how people felt less moody, less depressed and more sane once they stopped the injections too. I dont think they can affect your fertility, if anything, it preserves your fertility for longer - but Im no Dr so Im only guessing. As below, some ladies get pregnant really quickly so Im sure it depends from one person to the next. But for me, phew re the flood gates, and I will just wait patiently for the old fashioned period pains, cramps and bloating to start, then I will have the Ponstan at the ready, I never got used to all that lark!!

Hiya I have a similar situation. I have been on the Depo injection for about 2 years. But recently stopped (end of May was the due date for my next injection but didnt go) as I heard so many stories of how Depo can actually affect your fertility in the long term. I was very happy being on Depo but dont want to risk my future chances of pregnancy, also I cannot take the normal pill as I am not allowed to intake estrogen. I wouldn't mind going back on the Depo but want to be sure that it doesnt affect my future (im only 19 and studying at uni in th UK so dont really want to be pregnant right now :P but ofcourse think about the idea of having kids in the future). Does anyone know whether the fertility thing is a myth or whether it is true? Would really appreciate some advice! Thank you :)

I was on Depo for years and loved it, didn't do me any harm, got pregnant on our 1st attempt! I also hate injections, but with that I just leant on the bed, dropped my pants and before the nurse and I had commented on the weather (isn't it hot again, haha!) it was all over...! Came off it no problems, if I remember correctly it was a couple of months before I started my periods again, but they weren't any worse than they had been previous to starting the Depo. Got the gripes warning first as usual, certainly no immediate and clothes destroying flood gates opening... ;)

Hi Babylons I had my last injection 13th August 2009. I got my periods back 12th May 2010. I was on depo on and off for around 5 years or so. My periods were not too bad, but they did last 19 days or so. Have no idea what my cycle is as I've not really had a period since I was 15 due to contraception. Hope this helps x eta we are still trying for a baby, no luck as yet. Do I think it's the depo? Yes I think it may be a cause. I also put on 2 stone with the depo, never again! I also cannot take the pill due to migraines with aura. edited by dreamc on 08/06/2011

I was on it for over 6 years and took over a year for my periods to come back ...they advise it can take 6 to 18 months to be back to normal periods. You will prob get bloating and cramps before ....
