Hi ladies

Does anyone know if the vet in cargo village, to issue a Health certificate to export my dogs, is there on Saturdays?

TIA

Thanks a lot Starfish! I found something on the net, and except for a few EU countries, there's no need for the tick and worm treatment. You saved me a couple of 100 AED ;)

DesertRain: I have the Vet Health Certificate for Life animals from the Cargo Village Vet (which states "fit for travel") plus the European Form provided by the Swiss Gov Vet. And that's it. For Switzerland at least. No rabies serological test, no tics, no worm treatment. Only the rabies vaccination, microchip and the 2 forms. The Swiss Gov vet has a website and an email. I don't know where you are going to, but I guess that other countries must have the same. You could maybe call or send an email to your Gov. vet and if they are as nice as the Swiss ones, they might even answer. ;) Sorry, I didn't stumble over a list about the requirements for other countries. But if you need the tic and worm treatment - go to the municipality vet instead of a private vet. It will cost you a third.

Hi Starfish, now I'm totally confused (AGAIN :D ). I've been trying to find this info online, but unable to. Is there a list with countries where this tick treatment is/isn't required? I'm sure my vet will say it's required :) And do you have any letter that your pet is fit to fly? edited by DesertRain on 22/06/2011

Thanks, DesertRain. Relocating to Switzerland. They (Swiss gov. vet) just confirmed, that the Cargo Village vet was absolutely right. Sorry, Dr. Vet no. 45! :) So, just in case someone is going down the same route: YES for the European Export form, but NO for the tick and worming treatment. edited by starfish on 22/06/2011

Starfish, are you travelling/exporting to Europe? Because in that case, don't believe them... They don't know. You need to get the tick/worming treatment done and this needs to be filled, signed and stamped on the European Export form (a different certificate then the normal Export Certificate). You will get in trouble at the european border otherwise.

Thanks again, Sabrina H. I didn't see your last post yesterday, so I went directly to the cargo vet this morning. You were right about the changing procedures: Didn't have to pay the knowledge fee and he told me not to see the vet for tick treatment or anything else, as I frontlined them 2 days ago... If on Monday there's no article in the news about a cocker, a stray cat and a sobbing woman at the airport, then everything turned out ok. All the best to all fellow 4 and 2 legged travellers! :)

They constantly change their proceedures and dont tell anyone. . The best thing to do is to get a health certificate from your vet to say he/she has checked the animals and has found no signs of contagious diseases and that the animals are healthy and fit to travel. This then means you wont need to take them to the cargo village (as DesertRain said, he wont check them anyway, he will only check the microchip) Take all the paper work to the vet at the cargo village and he will give you an export permit. usually it will be both the dog and cat on one permit, but you will still have to pay 200dhs for each animal...there is also a 10dhs charge for the good old 'knowledge fee'! When I was there last week we brought the cats into his office in carriers, and at the time there was a lady with a maltese on a lead, so I dont think they mind small dogs, its the big ones they dont like (also, you have to walk through the customs building to get to the vet so you can imagine how many people will run for cover if they see a big dog!) Hope this helps :)

Thanks, DesertRain! It seems a bit strange that they don't have a look at the animals .... :\: So, you mean, that I could show them hubby instead and as long as his rabies vaccination is up to date, they'll stamp any kind of paper? ;)

I’m doing the whole thing at the moment for exporting my dogs to Europe. Make sure you are completely relaxed before you go, because you will need a lot of patience in Cargo Village!!! You only need the vaccination card (make sure he gives them back, because I only found out they were still with him once I was in my car... 5 km away!) He will give you an export certificate, for me I only needed 1 for my 2 dogs, not sure how it will be for a cat and dog. This costs 100 AED. If you’re exporting them to Europe, you will also need a European export form. 1 form for each animal, and this is 200 AED per form. He only fills the first part. For the second part you need to go to the vet, max 48 hours before departure, to get a tick treatment, and they fill the rest of the form. I’m not sure if you even need to take your pets there, because when I was there, he said they were not allowed in there, lol. Or maybe he meant out of the box (because I had them on the leash, I couldn’t carry them both in the box). He also didn’t look at them at all, only scanned their microchip. I don’t know, they all come across as a bit stupid to be honest... Good luck with it!

Unfortunately you wont get any sense out of them over the phone.... You will need original vaccination books, and copies of them, your passport copy, A rabies blood test certificate if this applies to where you are going. Also you will need an e-dirham card (make sure its the one with the chip, we found out the hard way that we couldnt use the swipe card, only chipped cards) We ended up paying cash, but im not sure this is the norm. They are open 24/7 so you can go anytime. If your do is a lare do you may not be able to take him into the buildin so you might want to take someone with you who can wait in the car. edited by Sabrina H on 21/06/2011

Could someone help me out, please? All the numbers for the gov. vet in cargo village, which I was provided with and all those I found myself on the net, seem to be either disconnected or wrong... The guy at the gov. helpline was terribly helpful, but I couldn't understand a single word of his explanations .. even though he said that he was speaking English ... I plan to pass by tomorrow and just want to make sure that I have all the papers, etc.. The dog would be fine going back and forth in the car, but the cat ... (so much about putting a former stray cat in a travel box ...) Thanks in advance.

Thanks Rubberduck You can get the certificate at any vet, but it needs to be stamped by them, so better to go to him in the first place. It's also cheaper from them I believe.

I guess there has to be a vet available 24/7 to deal with animals arriving and leaving? We arrive in dubai at just after midnight next week with our dogs and have been told that vet will be there to clear them. Out of interest, does the vet at cargo village have to be the one to issue health certificate, or can any approved vet do it?

I was there yesterday to double and double and double check on everything :D What they needed from me, when I had to get the certificates... but then I forgot to ask if he was there on Saturday, because I was planning to go on a weekday. I'm trying to call them, on different numbers, but you know how the municipality is ;) I also emailed them but no reply yet. I thought one of you lovely ladies might have the answer :)

You need to call them and make sure fifty times they are there and will be there.

I think there is one on duty 24 hours but perhaps you should check with them personally to be 100% certain.
