Is it possible to have someone come to the house to repair a TV here?

Our TV (samsung) starter (?) seems to be acting up - every time you hit the power switch it sort of clicks several times before it actually goes on. I have a feeling one of these days it just won't switch on. So was wondering - can I have someone come home to take a look at it and hopefully repair it (it's 3 years old now so no warranty) or do I need to take it into a service center?

Always Google everything first ;) It's worth contacting the local Samsung office, if there is one, to see if they're extending the free out-of-warranty repair to the UAE. It looks like it's very well established in the USA and Europe.

Wow thank you so much - i didn't even think of googling it :\: Ok will give it a try and if we can't fix it ourselves it probably is just worth buying a new TV - shame coz 3 years is not that old and it works fine otherwise!!

By the power of Google... [url=http://www.earthinfo.org/samsung-tv-makes-a-strange-clicking-sound/'>Samsung TV makes a strange clicking sound[/url'> Looks like that's your problem right there. Just Google "Samsung TV clicking" and you'll find many more articles about it. It's a known issue with capacitors in the power supply, and those capacitors can be replaced cheaply (less than 100 dhs for parts) and quickly by anyone with some experience of soldering. There are even YouTube videos demonstrating how to repair this problem, and in countries with proper consumer protection laws, Samsung has been known to repair out-of-warranty sets with this problem for free when customers were insistent. Service centres, though, would likely suggest replacing the entire power supply, which will probably run you round about a thousand dirhams. edited by edna.welthorpe on 14/08/2011

It's quite possible that the TV may need to be hooked up to diagnostic equipment that isn't portable. On the other hand, if you get hold of the service manual for your model (it's bound to be on the web somewhere although you may have to pay for it) you might find that your issue is covered in there, so you'd at least know which part(s) you need to order.

True. Mine is huge and heavy as well and I didn't feel comfortable lugging the monster to the warehouse especially it's a TV from US with the voltage issue. And for the price they charge, and not sure if the technician was experienced but most likely as clueless as me, I figure I would pay for the part and have a DIY. Thank goodness it worked and hopefully will last until a better 3D technology comes out :)

I think it's a bit dodgy get someone here to fix a telly....handymen and electricians prob haven't a clue how to fix one, u would need an expert to look at it...we had alot of trouble fixing ours and that was in the uk. May be best off waiting till it goes and gettng a new one ... There's always offers on tellys especially in carrefour. edited by fairycakeyumm on 14/08/2011

Sorry I should have been more clear in my original post. It is a big tv and will be a pain to take to the service center and i assume they would want to then keep it for a few days so I was trying to avoid all that. What I was trying to find out is if anyone knows a handyman/electrician who could come home and do something like this (and not charge an arm and a leg that the warehouse will charge just to send someone over!)

You would need to call Eros in Al Qusais and give them the model number and the issue with the TV. They will likely ask you to bring the TV into their warehouse so that they can do a diagnostic on it. If I remember correctly, if you are unable or refuse to bring your TV in, they will give you a different number to call for a technician to come to your house to check. The fee to come to my house last time was over 500 Dhs plus taxi fares just for the visit. So I ordered the part and fixed the darn thing myself for the price of the part only :)

Why not call the service centre and ask them?
