As for rudeness, it depends on where people are used to. If they have been to Doha or Kuwait, Dubai people are very polite. However if they have been to other polite places then many people in Dubai may appear arrogant and rude.
I have lost count how many times i hold the door open for someone who walks through without even saying thanks, thats considered a very impolite response to a polite act in some cities, but not in Dubai apparently.
Similarly jumping queues is something very prevalent in Dubai, I find it impolite, the person doing it may not find it impolite.
1 - Its my home and I miss it like crazy (living in another place now :( and no i am not emarati)
2 - The shininess of everything - the malls, mall bathrooms, the cars, the roads when the lights are up
3 - Everything is so near, almost every residential area has a large mall, clinic etc
4 - Foods from all over the world
5 - Sales staff, etc are polite (pomegranate - come to doha if u think pp in xb are rude)
6 - Shk zayed road - without the traffic - every where is so easily accesible thanks to it
7 - Culture - When u go out, its harder to find emaratis these days!
8 - Even in the crazy heats of july/august u can find a place to go and cool down indoors
9 - Lots of places for kiddies entertainment - pretty much all ages from 2 and above - especially good if u have children
10 - Shk Mo - I love the man.. he has made dubai what it is and it rocks! Every country has its negatives and so does dubai, but having been there for 3 decades, no other country in the world has achieved what dxb has in that short a time! He is the only ruler who i know of who you can actually spot driving his own car, or maybe even at the mall! :) He rules!
With all respect, Dubai is not a country, the United Arab Emirates is the country's name, Dubai is one of its Emirates, as is Abu Dhabi, which is the Capital of the UAE. The UAE as a whole has achieved a lot since independence
Might seem pedantic, but i want to ensure people mention the country's name as it is, and that Dubai is 1 of 7 Emirates.

Sorry WildMint but I question this - absolutely not everyone.....perhaps many of the service staff are polite and try their best to be helpful (with limited brain cells) but the general mish-mash of everyone else is rude and arrogant and full of me me me!!
maybe if you expect the staff to only have "limited brain cells" they will return the favour !!! lol
and i agree with Wildmint that ppl here are polite and helpful - i don't find rudeness or arrogance...

-honesty of people. even the same people are more honest here than in their home country.
-helpfulness of people. in general, everyone is so willing to help when one needs.
I dont fine people that honest or helpful here but anyways...
1) Food, so many restaurants with food catering to all budgets and cuisine
2) Having mosques and prayer areas in malls
3) Weather from November to February
4) Wonderful, large malls that could be towns by themselves
5) Safer than most large cities
6) Good road infrastructure
7) Most things clean and new
8) The fact that most places stay open so late. Shops dont close at 8pm
9) How could i forget: Burj Khalifa!
10) The urban sprawl, I actually like the fact that Dubai is designed more like Dallas/Houston than Boston. Living in downtown Abu Dhabi was good, but turned suffocating due to the congested roads and lack of parking.

The sea
The sun
Not having to put on several layers of clothing
Our villa and garden
Sheikh Saeed's former house with the brilliant B&W photos
Burj al Arab - I love being able to see the sail from almost anywhere, particularly like the subtle light show at night during the summer.
The Creek, particularly seeing the dhows and their wares along the quays, also just taking an abra
The Madinat - I know it's fake but I love it, it makes me laugh.
The Heritage Village
Not strictly Dubai - but the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi - absolutely beautiful, love it.
-safety and security, almost no theft, crime
-honesty of people. even the same people are more honest here than in their home country.
-helpfulness of people. in general, everyone is so willing to help when one needs.
-the fact that the majority of people here are well traveled, so easy to find common topics.
-paying no tax, getting the chance to decide on my own future including retirement savings
-having general medicine available without prescription
-having no snow and rain
-affordability of a car and petrol
-ease of air travel, frequent flights to anywhere, kind and helpful ground staff at check-in
-availability of awesome massages and spas :)
I second the last one. There are so many awesome spas here than back home.

Not sure if I can write 10 but here are some:
- total independence (I came to Dubai when I was fresh out of college and didn't know anyone here so here is where i actually started doing stuff on my own)
- people are more open to meeting new people (with expats leaving their friends back home, they're more open to meeting friends online and joining social groups)
- meeting people from different countries and learning about their culture
- the beaches, during winter
- for some reason, i get to do stuff i never did back home, simply because here, i care less about what people think of me.
- Friday brunches ;)
Our friends
Realising how much better off we are than so many other people from around the world
The winter
Our friends
Living in a city where our friends from 'home' want to come and visit
Our friends
Learning about Ramadan and what it means to different people
Living in a different land and exploring everything about it
Learning as much as we can about our new home
Lastly, realising that this is not and never will be your 'home' country, you will always require a visa to live here unless you're an Emirati despite the fact that you may have been born in the UAE. [b'>Conversely, if the child of an Emirati is born in the UK then that child is entitled to a UK Passport.[/b'>
Birth in the UK does not entitle Emirati or any non UK national to a British passport, in 1983 this law changed and now nationality is only obtained through descent by parentage or by registration upon permanent settlement. So if neither parent is British or permanently settled there being born there will not provide a passport.
