I recollect reading that here or somewhere - tried searching, but no luck.

If above is not correct where would you suggest. This is for someone severely depressed. Urgent replies would help.

Summerdream this is also a lot of pressure/responsibility for you - it would probably be best to call the recommended numbers and speak to someone - at least you are covered then in the event of anything untoward, that you did the right thing. Hugs to you and your poor friend. :( Sorry, didn't write other details as been stressed. Have done all else possible, let key family know, scheduled her to see her doc again and put some support system in place.

I just got confirmation from a doc that Rashid Hospital is best equipped and where she should go. No police report will be made, unless she has actually attempted suicide. She's rather strong and keeps telling me she's knows its just the chemical deficiency in her head and will feel better soon. She's assured me - she will take a taxi to Rashid if she feels that way again.

Thanks all. Would anybody know specifically about Rashid Hospital? She's already on meds etc and seeing docs, but I think will have to be hospitalised so she doesn't do anything. I believe she has rapid cycling bi-polar or depression that dips severely and suddenly or something like that, she's okay now - but I have received calls twice this week, asking me to just remain on the phone line, hoping the feeling would pass, but today she was terrible and unable to normalise for a few hours - she just kept saying her head is asking her to end the pain. edited by summerdream on 12/10/2011

Also Lifeworks, I believe they have an emergency person for these things though not a psychiatrist so no meds.

A really close friend of mine recently slit her wrists. We took her to Rashid Hospital as she needed to be stitched up... and yes, we had to go to the police station - but she didn't go to prison. A report was filed. It was a really awful experience.

I would try calling a GP or hospital and see what they recommend - or even 999 if someone is in imminent danger. Don't call 999 - suicide is illegal here and DOES carry a prison sentence. I know ambulance men who once the guy has been stitched up have taken them straight to the police station.

I don't know about Rashid, but I would suggest you calling Dubai Community Health on 04 395 3939 and ask for an urgent appointment with Dr Amer the psychiatrist there. There are I believe some very bad consequences here legally wrt to suicide/attempted or 'successful'. Good luck.

Sorry to read this sort of thread. Although I am not too sure I think Rashid hospital would be best for A and E but I would assume that mental health issues would be something they would be able help with but I would recommend that you get in touch with the Dubai Community Health Centre as a first point of contact, +9714 395 3939 and check out their website which offers a lot more information, http://www.dubaicommunityhealthcentre.org/index.php I am sure they can offer advice.
