And it's 25 for the "family/ladies" taxi...
I didn't know this until the guy running the queue at the airport wouldn't let me use the other regular taxi. I then worked it out. But in the end, the extra 5 is fine not to have to smell the guy and/or avoid being hit on. THe ladies are always nice and want to chat about anything & everything!!! :D
No wonder the metro to the airport line will never start early or run late-they'd lose all the taxi revenue! I use metro whenever possible now.
But if you get into a cab at the airport it starts at AED 20
I traveled last month and when I got into a taxi I saw the meter set at AED20. So I got out and asked the security guy who monitors the taxi flow. He confirmed it was AED 20. Later the taxi guy told me it's a special fare for airport taxis as they pick up the passengers in the airport only and are not allowed to pick anybody else on the way to the airport.
In your case seems that what they were doing was illegal.
They are thieves, and if i had time and DH with me, we would have called the RTA on the spot, many drivers are maniacs so dont try it if you are alone, but with a man, its best to have them punished.....
And while taxi drivers in neighbouring emirates have it bad, Dubai ones in comparison do quite well with tourists and also good tips from many passengers.....too bad some of them want to scam you as well...
