since we started school in September 11th, Raffles teachers have had 4 days for training, which translates in no school days....Add to that the half days for parents-teachers meetings plus regular holidays....

I´m flipping! Is this normal?

To me it means either that the teachers are not qualified enough, hence the need for constant training (woories me quite a bit...because they charge as if we had oxford trained teachers) or lack of organization (honestly, teachers coudl do the training before the school year starts....)

Raffles West Campus. One of the days was given because they didin´t have teachers to take care of all the kids (as training was only for new teachers...)so we all got the day off... Only one of the days appears on the official calendar... I´ll count the days as you suggested and see....

Why don't you ask them what the training is for- maybe they are really keen on constantly improving their teachers skills and keeping them up to date with things- might be a postive rather than a negative- you never know :)

Check the school calendar and count up every single teaching day, then check with KHDA how many days were approved as teaching days. All school calendars have to have approval from KHDA prior to the start of the year i understand. Schools have to complete a set number of days, normally 180, but approval seems to happen around this number. If you have further issue take it up with KHDA. I'm afraid the days of inset training where children are sent home is gone in the paying fee system, it's just not acceptable for so many reasons.

I have never heard of this in my kids school. I'd be very wary of Raffles, with the amount of children they put in one class in their nurseries, it does not look good. Check also the nursery/school discussion board.

My kids are in South Campus, they only had 1? on that day several schools had half day dismissal? I know in the US , we had one day per semester for teacher seminar?

I don't think that's normal. My DD's school rarely has a teacher training day.
