I have POLAR brand heart rate monitor, I mean the one with a band which you wear below your chest and a watch to show the heart rate, I see people calculating calories burned during the workout using the heart rate monitor, embarrassed at being so ignorant ,but how do we calculate the calories burned, when the heart rate keeps going high and low, with the intensity of the excercise.

TIA

The watch does it for you. Depends which model you have as to what it calculates. You need to enter your age and weight for an accurate reading. You also have to keep it within a certain range if you want to fat burn ( that depends on age etc)
