How to trim back a Frangipani ???

We had one in our last garden which grew to a horrific size - all gnarled and twisty.

We have a much smaller one now in our new garden and would like to keep it in check but how? It seems to have loads of bare branches then flowers etc at the ends of these. If you cut these back, will it get bushier at the centre or will it just leave dead branches?

Any advice, please?

If you trim the branches right back to the stem they wont re grow, however if you trim them a few inches above the stem they will bush out again with new growth. After trimming the sap will seal the cut,it is best to trim/prune during the dormant cycle ie spring to summer. I used to top mine and trim to suite the size and area I wanted it to cover. Good luck.
