Suede look curtain vs a satin one?

I know to a large extent this is a "personal taste" choice, but was wondering if anyone had anything to say on the functionality of suede look curtains before I spend truckloads of money doing our villa out in them? I'm currently down to a decision between suede look or satin. I've had satin before but not suede.

Please dont get satin! I just stayed at a guesthouse this December decked out with Satin curtains and they are so noisy when there is even a light breeze. Barely got any sleep. Then there was a loose thread hanging out and my DS pulled it and the curtain was halfed! They look nice but they dont last long and dont really block sun out.

Yes, I found hand marks a problem. My sons room had dark blue suede eyelet curtains so you had to pull them across each night. Ended up with a large patch at 'pull level' after a while.

Might be throwing a spanner in the works but would not recommend either for great stain resistance/hard wear factor. If you are decided make sure you get them fabric protected (Scotchguard or similar) to extend their life. agree, but did not realise stains would be a factor...if you need to have them washed/cleaned regularly go for cotton, would ask Joseph at Aleena to do them for you, he is usually very knowledgeable about materials/washing instructions

I went for more natural fibres like linen and linen blends. Our service apt had suede and it seemed to function well. Not sure about satin...

Thanks loube. I was wondering if the suede look was a problem in terms of getting marked by hands - I'm thinking of my lovely suede jacket which looks a little tired and will cost me a fortune to dry clean! Anyone else with experience?

I would guess suede look would block out more light than satin. satin would move better in the breeze if you had your windows open and curtains drawn, I would choose suede for the bedrooms, and maybe dining room and the rest go with satin or a light cotton (with sheers)
