My DS,the elder of the twins who'll be turning 4 next week was a chubby baby until he was weaned off of formula a year ago as per the doctor's advice.Needless to say,he lost weight and I was thinking may be all the sucrose in the formula made him chubby all this time.
At that time he was going to pre school too and caught each and every bug and was constantly sick and was on antibiotics.
He goes down when he is sick but hardly gains any weight. He gains about 1/2 pound when he is better and thats it.Even though his weight is in the normal range he looks worn off,his rib cage is protruding out and I can clearly see his green veins. His skin is very thin and fragile. He is prone to frequent sinus infections and phlegm. He eats mostly home cooked food and snacks only little. The other twin has the same meals and perfectly ok and has gained weight too.
I mentioned this to the pediatrician several times and he doesn't seem to take it seriously. He is the antibiotic is cure for all kind of a doctor. But my motherly instincts tell me that this needs investigation. And I'm considering showing DS to another doctor who'll listen to my concerns.I recently started him on a multivitamin, probiotics an extra vit c.
Have any of you had any concerns like this ?
Any recommendations for a good pediatrician ?

My 4 yr old also doesnt gain weight. I supplement his meals with pediasure milk but he stays the same weight some days he weighs a little less. Maybe its normal at this age for a weight standstill?

One thing I've learned along the way is to trust your gut instinct when it comes to your children. If you feel something is not right, keep investigating all avenues until you are satisfied. No one cares as much about your child as you do. It's our job as parents to be concerned about our children's health. If I had not carried on trying to find the cause of my DD's problem, she would probably be at least hearing impaired with speech problems and still sick all the time. Hope you sort it out.

Hi Farwin, I went through the same with my DD. She had chronic sinus and ear infections, was always on antibiotics and very thin. To cut a long story short, I took her to an ENT, Dr Baghat in Jumeira. He passed a small camera up her nose and in her throat (very gently while awake) He advised to remove her tonsils, adenoids & have grommets inserted. I opted to have it done when I went home on holiday. It was the best thing I ever did for her. She recovered quickly and the ENT told me her tonsils were rotten and huge. Her ear drained brownish fluid for a few days from the chronic infection and then she was fine. Everything improved. She has been well for 2 years now. She is slim but not thin. I also took her to a pediatric dietician at home who advised me on more calorie dense foods and to supplement her with Pediasure formula which really helped maintain her weight before she had surgery. Hope this helps.

Farwin, With regard to sinus infection; show him to a good ENT. There is a female ENT doctor in Medcare whom I had positive experience with. My little on went through ENT related problems and within 4 months she had 6 different antibiotics. ENT doctor accurately identified the issue and was promptly treated. She is doing fine now. I can also recommend Dr. Estha Jacob at Medcare clinic in mirdiff city centre. Antibiotics is not the ultimate cure for everything.

So sorry you are concerned about your little one. i have taken DD to Dr Mousa at Dubai London Clinic Jumeirah before. He looks a little young and 'slick' but he was very thorough ad extremely good with DDs 40 degree temperature and severe croup. He even gave me his mobile number and asked me to call him that evening to report DD's temperature. nice guy. I can also recommend all of the GPs at Dubai London Clinic in Festival City. The Peads at City Hospital are good too. Although i can't remember the name of the lovely Indian doctor that saw DD, he was wonderful and so kind. Good luck. edited by Kelly_C on 17/05/2012

Well I doubt that one can give valid advice on the babies health in a forum. Seruiously just see one or two other doctirs till you find one you trust. i guess you didn't read the entire post.I'm not asking for any valid advice regarding my baby's health.Similar experiences and recommendation for a good pediatrician..
