recently i went for 12 month vaccination of my son. the doctor at the govt clinic suggested i start cow's milk but to add any flavor in it and not to give plain. i tried giving him some mixed with corn flakes and he liked it fine. there is no need to make it flavorful right? also i want to add vanilla flavor to his yoghurt sometimes. should i do that by using a pod? i don't give him sugar. he loves yoghurt in any form, whether plain or mixed with fruits. i have started giving him normal yoghurt, full cream one.
he has recently started showing a liking for corn flakes. are there any sugar free ones? we bring "k" and i give him few bits sometimes to chew on.

He has recently started having water. I keep his cup in his range and he drinks himself also when I am drinking he wants from my glass. I give him all the time but he has not got the hang of drinking from glass. He puts his tongue in the glass :) but I still keep on trying.i' ll try milk also from that.

weird Dr indeed! I would just offer it plain, my son has only ever had milk cold, infact the two times he has been given warm milk (by people used to giving babies bottles) he has turned up his nose at it completely. Try just giving it in a regular cup rather than sippy cup, my son drank from a regular cup much earlier than a sippy. I'm assuming you are still breastfeeding, so no real nutritional need for cows milk, I'd just offer sips from a cup that you are drinking from yoursellf, and let your baby decide whether or not to take it. almond milk is a completely different product to cows milk, nutritionally one is not really a substitute for the other. I'd try to encourage your baby to drink water in addition to breastfeeding, no hurry on other milks or dairy products unless you are wanting to stop nursing soon.

i am sure kiwispeirs she did say "to add" as smell of cow's milk out them off. afterall i did say pardon" :) i always get weird advice from doctors at govt clinic. as for the vanilla yoghurt he used to love it when i bought babies yoghurt. it will not hurt to give him once in a while as a treat. my baby loves cows milk, plain but he just need it chilled which is fine by me..i have just started to give him in very small quantities. since i have never given him bottle so i have to feed him by spoon or in his sipper ( which he does not like) evelyn2000 where can i get almond milk? waitorse?

why dd your Dr say to add flavour??, are you sure he didnt say NOT to add flavour, it would seem rather bizarre advice otherwise. If your baby is refusing plain milk and plain yoghurt, then you can mix with fresh fruits, but otherwise, just give it plain, and definetly unsweetened. why do you want to add vanilla to the yoghurt if he likes it plain?

You don't need to give cows milk at all, milk it is not best source of calcium. There is almond milk in the market which taste great and is much healthier than cows. Also the camel&goat milk are great alternative. Regarding the flavoring there is natural vanilla essence in the market, but i can not help, i saw in UK in Waitrose, in Dubai I never checked. I have no idea why the doctor advice you to add flavoring :?Maybe just to make milk more attractive ;).

I have no clue why they would recommend that you NOT give plain cows milk to your son. We have transitioned both my kids onto plain, straight from the jug full fat cows milk after they turned 1. That is the recommendation we were given from our doctors in the States.
