Replacement for Dawn detergent

Maybe some of the American ladies can help out here as I'm wondering what's a suitable substitute for Dawn detergent. I've seen several super duper "make at home" cleansers that use vinegar, bicarb of soda etc but a lot of them also include Dawn. I'd like to try making some but am not sure what to use instead of Dawn.

Thanks for your help.

I use fairy dishwashing liquid in all my homemade cleaning liquids. Works great. Ecochic Would you be able to direct me to some sites for homemade cleaning liquids please? Googled some and differing ingredients. Really want to try making my own! Or maybe you've got a few simple ones to share? Thanks

You can purchase Dawn at the Park n Shop Cash and Carry in the Green Community. I bought a mammoth sized pump container of the stuff about two months ago. No need to substitute.

I also use Fairy in my homemade cleaners but the blue liquid Dawn is available at Safestway, if you're interested in the "real thing".

I tried to clean the shirts using just peroxide and bicab of soda but it didn't work so well. I'll try again with fairy liquid added to the mix! There are so many cleansers available now and we buy them because they promise so much and seem convenient. Instead of buying liquid soaps, I've been using one of the empty foam dispensers from bath and body works and using just a little inexpensive bath gel (1l for 10dh) topped up with water and it works really well.

I've made the homemade cleaner that gets yellowed white t-shirts white again using baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and "Dawn" and I used the lemon Fairy instead and it worked great!

I googled this a while back and learned that the sub for Dawn is Fairy dishwashing detergent. It makes great bubbles!
