passport validity & exiting UAE - 3 months?

When we plan to exit the UAE for summer holidays, my son will have 2 months until his UK passport expires. I did plan to renew his UK passport over the summer, while we are in the UK.

Guidance on www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice, indicates that a passport must be valid for at least 3 months to travel out of the UAE.

I cannot find any advice on a UAE gov site to confirm this.

- Does anyone know if the UAE does enforce this 3 month limit on travelling out of the UAE?
- Can you point me in the right direction for a UAE website?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your help guys. Does anyone have a reference to a UAE website that sets out UAE policy though? ...I just don't want to leave it to chance. I have spoken to UK passport helpline, but they can only advise on UK passport processing, not leaving UAE. Thanks.

Your only problem might be renewing in UK as might not get renewed in time reading about how chaotic things currently are. u would need to pay for the fast track but it still always cheaper than what we pay from here...

You can use the fast track (1 week) in uk for children renewals just not the one day service if that helps.

You will be ok leaving UAE to go to UK. I also believe that as long as you have residents visa you don't even need the 3 month validity to enter UAE. I wish I had known this as the reason I sent my DD passport away 4 weeks ago for renewal was that I thought I needed this 3 month validity to enter in Aug ..hers expires in Oct. I've since been told that she doesn't need 3 months as long as has residency visa. Passport office is a shambles in UkI at min and reports of taking 10 weeks plus so at minute I am not even sure I will get it back in time to travel in 5 weeks time. Be aware that you can no longer do the 1 day renewal service for children in UK. This is reason I sent mine away rather than doing in Uk. yep said that in another thread about it as long as you have valid resident visa you are fine to go.

we have come back to uae with less than 6 months validity... .i believe that as long as you have a valid residence visa thats all they are interested in... if the passport was expired the machine would recognise it but they are looking at the visa page and so thats fine... you can actually go back to your home country ie the uk with an expired passport but its the airlines that put down the 6 months rules usually as a disclaimer as they would be the ones that would have to pay a fine etc if you were refused entry...... i wouldnt worry think the last time one of the passports had 3 or 4 months left on it coming back on etihad from france not a problem at all. wouldnt bother with the uk passport office, a lot ofpeople having issues getting theirs renewed at the moment, and if read todays paper it looks like the uk lot are having the same problems..... 3000 extra passports being renewed at this time compared to last year... they have cut back on staff so there is a big tail back... and ringing up the helpline they said that only 8 people manning them so costing a lot as on hold etc... i would say that you are fine with that.

You should be ok to leave the UAE and enter the UK, perhaps try emailing a UK passport helpline.
