I am just wondering if anybody here works at City Hospital or Welcare Hosp as a nurse/midwife or any other medical position. I am interested to know what the culture of working there is like.
I have applied for a job but not sure what conditions of work will be like. I am interested in the no of hours a week as full time. Is pay on the same level as US or Aus? Is accommodation offered etc etc
For those of you who have had a baby at one of these hospitals what have your experiences been like, I am interested to know both pos and neg.

Same as Rawla - staff were great, for the most part. Was lest than impress when I had my first and struggled to get my daughter onto the breast to feed and I had a stroppy mare making me feel really stupid but other than that, all good. I have had 2 there within the space of less than 18 months and pretty recently too

Both of my children were born at City Hospital and I had a great experience each time. The midwives I had were lovely. Very friendly, calm, patient, etc. and in one instance the midwife actually saved my unborn baby when she noticed his heart rate drop dramatically while I was in labour. She really showed her experience and knowledge, and acted instantly, which I was very grateful for. They seem to be happy with their jobs. One midwife had just moved from the UK to work at City and we had an interesting chat about the NHS in between contractions ;) The nurses were also generally good, but I did have some strange encounters with them - one commented on my weight and another wanted to wake up my newborn at 5am to do the heel prick test! I later found out that they try to do more during the night shift to ease the burden on the nurses during the day shift, which is fair enough, but doesn't always make sense. Which sleep deprived new mum will willingly wake up a newborn who has just managed to doze off after crying most of the night? Good luck with your job application. My experience as a patient was generally very good at City. I felt safe and cared for by the midwives and nurses.
