There is no requirement for an annual holiday ticket in the Labour Law. It is only standard practice here.

Does anyone know if it is required by law to provide an annual return ticket to expats?? A friend of mine (single female from the UK) has been given an offer letter with no mention of an annual return ticket. When she asked them about it they said a ticket would not be provided. This is a new firm setting up in Dubai. TIA it depends on what is in the contract, a lot of contracts now are lump sum so there is no allowances for such a ticket etc.

DH works for UK law firm here and doesn't get annual tickets home - salary is paid as a lump sum and we pay everything from that, means we can spend the money how we decide. But as always, is worth asking for this when negotiating salary.

The DIFC has its own labour law so the Labour Department wouldn't be able to help. The law is on their website so tell her to have a read through it to see if she is entitled to one. Otherwise it will just be a negotiation point.

I work for a company in DIFC. My original contract had a return flight to the UK in it. Then after a few months audit flagged that I was the only person except the COO who had a flight allowance and the other employees on my level just had additional money added onto their salary. I got an extra 500aed a month in my salary and they removed the flight allowance. they didnt show it in my contract as a benefit. My salary isnt broken down either, which will be great when i get EOSB as it will be based on 100% of my salary! I thought they had to give flights by law but it seems not. Just call Government services at DIFC and they will tell you.

my DH works for a large Uk law firm and doesn't get a ticket home. i think a lot of them are moving towards an all in package rather than specific itemised benefits. has she tried to negotiate the contract? always worthe asking :)

on a limited contract, the ticket is only when the contract is completed. house maid have an annual contract and hence get a ticket when thier contract ends (one way). As far as i know, labourers get tickets maybe once in 2 yrs at the discretion of thier employer. not too sure about DIFC contracts but most free zones dont even come under the purview of labour and they have their own laws....

Thank you ladies. I was under the impression that a return ticket was required by law. Even laborers get them - housemaids are required to be given a ticket by law. I did check UAE labor law and could not find anything about an annual return ticket. Need to find something so that it can be shown to the potential employer that it is a requirement. Why don't you call the labor department and ask them if its written anywhere.

Maybe someone here can ask their company PRO for you.

As far as I know, it is not mandatory by law but it is extremely common practise. If you go through the UAE labour law, as far as I know you will not find it mentioned. Like I said, its very common practise but not legally required. As far as medical is concerned, a basic government medical card is mandatory but nothing more. It is at the company's discretion if they decide to provide it or not.

Yes under the labour law, they are required to give an annual ticket to the country of origin (wherever her passport is from) and basic health insurance to.
