Hi all

My best friend is in initial talks with firms here about a move. Can anyone tell me a ballpark figure of what a lawyer, 5 years post admission, commercial litigation would earn?

Or, if anyone works in this field and would mind chatting to her on email, she (and I ) would be most grateful.

Thanks in advance

You should also look up Footprint Legal. They are a boutique recruitment company purely focused on Law, unlike Taylor Root which are International & part of a group. With Footprint, you tend to get a more personnel approach, with indepth knowledge & expertise in the local market here.

Having done payroll for a number of law firms in the UAE, I can tell you that it matters not if the lawyer is male of female, just experience. Salaries have ranged from $130,000 per year basic to $300,000 basic.

Sorry but I also disagree. We just hired a lawyer and went through about a zillion CV's. all the salaries were high. Lawyers are well paid here.

Derien I disagree. Maybe a male lawyer would earn that much but not a female, I think she's looking at USD 100,000 to 120,000 in house and USD 120,000 to 145,000 in private practice. Despite what the Labour Law says it is not equal pay for equal work here.

I would say in a firm that a 5 year qualified associate lawyer would earn around USD 160-180K per year + bonus. An in house role would fetach about 140 -145K and the bonus would be less but the hours would be much better edited by derien on 27/07/2011 edited by derien on 27/07/2011

At the moment she works for a firm - second tier I would say. In other words not a Minter Ellison or other top tier. She specialises in corporation law, contractual disputes, risk management. I am guessing she would continue at a private firm. Derien can you give me an example of both? I know she would appreciate it! (

It would entirely depend on whether your friend works for a firm or as general counsel in-house. Salary difference is huge
