Everything is cheaper in the US. And better quality. What a ridiculous statement. The quality is defined by an independent certifying institute. So make sure you get a diamond with certificate. As emlsnre suggest look online for an idea of price. Many online retail sellers of diamonds and easy to compare as a result of the certificates. I wasn't referring solely to diamonds. If you read, "everything is cheaper in the US." Don't be rude, OD. edited by dolleymadison on 04/03/2014 Actually, not 'everything' is cheaper in US than here. Maybe clarify your post a little clearer..

Actually, the diamond district in New York city may not be the best place to shop for diamonds. [url=http://beyond4cs.com/2015/02/nyc-diamond-district-shoppers-trap/'>Read this.[/url'>. However, if you do put in enough time and effort to vet jewelers and shop prepared, I think it is possible to find good deals.

I would recommend visiting the diamond district in NYC. While Bluenile and other chains are convenient as they have pricing available online, the smaller stand-alone and "whole sale" shops in the diamond district are often able to offer much better prices as they do not have the expenses of marketing, large staff, web, etc. of the brand name stores.

Thanks for your replies. Bluenile is a great idea emlsnre, I'll have a look and then visit Cara's. I have bought a lots of jewellery from Kieran at Cara's and have been very happy with them, it was just that a friend mentioned that NYC had good diamond prices. I was looking for GIA certified, so that will give me a good indication. edited by TimTam on 04/03/2014

Also review GIA vs. IGI as there is a huge difference in quality and grading scales. http://www.diamondreview.com/forum/topic/3169-gia-vs-igi/ I wanted to buy my diamond in the US, but ended up buying an equivalent diamond that I could touch and feel from Lifestyle jewelers in Lamcy on the ground floor. The specs were identical, and I only paid 5% more for a 1.6 carat diamond in Dubai =(At the time, was AED 1300 more, on a total of AED 36,000 - was AED 34,700 in the US). edited by g_bharat on 04/03/2014

Can you look online at somewhere like bluenile and choose a comparable stone to here to get an idea of price? If you get the clarity, colour, cut etc and then go to Cara's you will see the difference. Just make sure they are both graded by the same i.e GIA.
