Hello Expats!

Could anyone advise me on the average monthly DEWA cost for a 4 bedroom villa with a private pool? (The chiller is included in the rent.)

I have not been able to find legit information yet and DEWA have not been much help... If anyone could shed some light it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Thank you! We wouldn't be paying for AC as it is included in the rent but my concern was the pool and now that you mention it, the grass... But I guess that the AC would be the most expensive part of the bill, so i am hoping that it would not amount to over 3K if we don't have to pay AC.

We budgeted 3.5k and ours has never been anywhere near that....I think more expensive than a pool is grass so if you can replace that with paving and some nice side plants that need less watering then you save a lot. There are so many factors that it's hard to compare i.e. - does your house have central a/c or split a/c -how many rooms does the a/c cover -do you have a maid home during the day -do you use a tumble drier -how often do you use your washing machine -how many water heaters do you have on -do you have grass & how often is it watered -do you have a gardener who is coming and pouring water out of a hose (even washing next door's car!) while you are not home -is your pool leaking so your pump is automatically filling it up and you are not noticing -how many bedrooms are you running a/c in at night etc. So it's very difficult to compare even two houses next door to each other which may have completely different lives going on inside!

To be honest I don't think you can do any more than guess an average at this stage. It will all depend on the amount of water you use and whether you cook with electricity or gas. it's the same the world over, you just have to wait and see, and if it is very high, see where it's going and where you can cut back. And if you're in the house all day or not.

Thanks So much! Yes i have done a few seraches on here but the answers differ from 1,5K and to 5K (that is a rather large difference..) I guess i will have to average it at around 3K a month ... It still seems steep considering that the chiller is paid by the landlord though. ... I also love the warm and have to defrost in the sunshine every few hours! ;)

haha after 10 years in UK my body is still adjusting to the 'toastier' climate! I'm only starting my third year here after never leaving the UK and I still need to go outside and warm up every now and again, and I'm a cheapskate :) edited by Geordie expat on 22/06/2014

I agree about the accuracy of the bills. We spent two weeks away and the DEWA bill was higher than we were expecting. I forgot to check the meters at that point, but I will when we get this months. AC on 25 and 22 - I'd freeze!! Ours is never less than 27 and even then I'm still cold.

It really varies villa to villa. We are already just above 3.5k. We have 4 bedroom house (only 3 used though), pool is compound pool and we are VERY careful with AC consumption (only on thermostat 25 only downstairs when we are in the living room, always off when out which is quite a bit) and then 22 for bedrooms during night. Husband is known as DEWA warrior as always barking on about it. So many stories as well of DEWA being same when people go away for summer (those without maids so literally empty house) so I'm really not convinced of accuracy.

Reading threads on here ( input DEWA into the search post above) and there are a few threads advising on this 2k Winter Up to 3.5k in the Summer
