I'd like to take my parents to Bab Al Shams as I've read lots of threads about it. I've been on their website and there are several different restaurants to choose from.

Can anyone recommend which would be the best and approx cost- my parents are very elderly.

Also - approximately how long does the drive take to get there? Thanks.

We went to Al Hadheera last week on Friday night for dinner. Of course more expensive for the weekend but we had a great night. We took two older visitors from Australia who really enjoyed it. My 3 children had a ball too. The buffet had a lot to chose from, the whole atmosphere was great, the show was enjoyable and the Emirati camel and horse performance was really nice too. The kids had the kids club to entertain them along with the horse and camel rides included. The Flacon was there and the small souk but you had to pay for Henna of course. The museum displaying Emirati culture is nice for visitors too. Its pricey but with the food and entertainment included a great night out. We got to see Sheik Mohammed too as he loves the place apparently. Take a jacket as its chilly at night but you are protected and you can drive right up to the entrance in your car, just follow the sign so you don't have to walk all the way. For National Day they are having a full Emirati show with traditional dancing etc...

Trigg, i would say its more than 20 mins - more like 30 mins from the ranches. If you keep following the road there is a car park right next to where they have the arabian buffet - with camels belly dancing as described .

I love Bab Al Shams. We regular go there for the sunset or a shisha in the evening. From Marina it takes as 1 hour driving. Very easy to find. Prices in Lounge Al Sarab: arabic mezza mix - 120 AED other starters in the same range Pizza starting 65 AED The duty manager took us on a tour to the Al Hadeerah Restaurant which is a little be fare from the hotel itself but i didn't like it that much. It's might be nice for tourists but price around 400 AED per person weekend/weekdays cheaper. edited by Gege_DXB on 16/11/2011

Hi Trigg Beach, If I recall correctly from the last time I went it's about 20mins from Arabian Ranches so not too far. I've been to their Arabic restaurant which is spectacular and has a show with dancers, camels, horses, etc but IMO it is very overpriced and probably more worth for younger visitors. Again, if I recall correctlly we paid AED400 per person, without alcohol and it is an open air buffet essentially. If you think your parenst might enjoy that type of entertainment I'd say go for it, otherwise it's not worth it. Bear in mind it's a bit of a walk from the hotel and I didn't see golf carts carrying people, I'm only mentioning because you said your parents are very elderly and may not be comfortable walking. Not too sure about the other restaurants as we had snacks by the pool and then breakfast the next day so the Arabic was the only one we tried, but the one near the pool area where breakfast is served seemed very pleasant and teh food was good. Hope this helps a bit:-)

You may get deals on line that have 1/2 board! That would cut down costs as all restaurants are expensive. Now with the cooler weather do the outside dinner just remember to have a jacket as much cooler. Time from MOE is about 30min....depends how fast u drive ..lol
