for a quicker version (and more tasty if you ask me) 175g (6oz) butter 75g (3oz) caster sugar (i use a TB sp of golden syrup and 2oz of brown sugar instead) 397g can condensed milk melt the butter and sugar over a low heat until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is golden in colour. Add the condensed milk, stirring continuously and bringing to the boil. Keep the caramel boiling steadily for 2 mins, whilst stirring to make a thick golden caramel. Take the caramel off of the heat and cool.

Without meaning to sound totally thick, do you remove the can lid before boiling the condensed milk? no - just put the whole can in. Don't let the pan go dry thou.

Without meaning to sound totally thick, do you remove the can lid before boiling the condensed milk? Are you serious? Never boil anything in its original tin!

The toffee bit is the boiled tin of condensed milk. You could also buy Dulce de Leche or toffee sauce instead, just as good and save time. I thought the "offee" bit involved sprinkling coffee granules on before the bananas, or whipping coffee essence into the cream, or something?

Yes but how do you do the toffee bit? Place a can of condensed milk in a pan of boiling water (do not let it boil dry) for 3 - 4 hours. When you open it's toffee

It's the easiest think in the world to make Crush ginger nuts - mix with melted butter - line bottom of spring tin. Boil a can of condensed milk for 3-4 hours - cool spread on bic base. Cover with sliced nanas, a layer of whipped cream and top with graded chocolate... Voila - banoffee pie :)
