So I finally gave in and bought a pair! But they are killing me...I had to put band aids all over my feet...
Do they get more comfortable with time?! Or did I just waste my money...

Sorry, I had the relatives out from the UK and took them back to the airport in the evening after a full day running around for last minute things. Now I've lost my phone, its in the house somewhere so I know I will find it. Its also run out of battery, so I can't ring it. I will search for it as soon as my hubby gets up, he's been sick so I don't want to disturb him. Looking forward to meeting the famous KellsBells whom I've seen post so many times.

Hi KellsBells, I am a UK 5/6 or Birkenstock 39 and only have 1 pair in gold. I wear a lot of blue dresses and would love a blue pair. I could give yours a good home. Please call me on 050 1041286. Thanks. I tried texting you as it was early in the am and I'm not sure whether you'd be having a lie-in or not... Did you get my text?

I went crazy in the sales and bought 4 pairs last year, like some other posters, they really hurt me, blisters etc. DH lives in his and loves them. Great suggestion from SueB about breaking them in slowly round the house. Will give that a go.

I bought a pair 2 years ago and just couldn't get on with them. The cheaper versions were great but the actual Birkies just weren't comfy. They never hurt me, just not comfy. Anyway, they're still sitting in my shoe cupboard... If any of you Birki fans would like them, just shout. They've seriously been worn 3/4 times. They're aquamariney-blue I'm a UK 5/6... If anyone interested I'll check the size ;-)

I love them, I am actually addicted to buying them and whenever I have to get a get a gift to mum or aunty or a friend, I go for a Birkenstock. The 1st one I bought was in 2008 when I wanted something comfy for my vacation in China and at that time, they killed me, it took me 10 days (basically half of my vacation) to get used to them.. but since then I wear only Birkies in weekends and if I have something to finish after work during weekdays, I have to exchange my heels and wear my birkins instead.. I got lot of colors, different designs, I love them :) I convinced lot of friends to buy them too and they all said that they are painful at the beginning and wanted to kill me for wasting their money, but after few days, they bought additional ones :)

you are supposed to break them in slowly as they are a negative heel along with other things/ starting with an hour a day and see how that goes then up the time. Your shoes should not hurt like that! There might be a problem if you are having bandaids all over your feet, that is not right. Stop wearing until your feet heel then start with short times and build up. You can expect a bit of discomfort in the 1st week but certainly not pain. If you find you are getting low back pain after a month, then these shoes are not for you....good luck :)

What sort did you buy? I bought two pairs -- some clogs and some flip-flops -- as I needed some solid supportive shoes post-leg break, and oh my word, I adore them. True, the flip flops gave me a few blisters at the start, but now they are perfect. And I practically live in the clogs. Fab for slopping around the house [on those cold hard marble floors!'> as well as wearing all day for running errands and things. Stick them out. They'll serve you well. :)
