I would like to spend 4-6 months of the year in Dubai with my kids.

I work freelance in the UK. Now as a means to getting to stay in Dubai for longer than the 1 month visa that would normally be issued and not wanting to do the visa run; can anyone advise me as to whether getting a freelance visa would allow my children and I to stay in Dubai for 4-6 months? Even if I am not really earning anything in Dubai?

Thanks

Thanks Ladies I will check out the options you have mentioned, @ dentro , from the UK we only get a 1 month visa. I am guessing with 3 kids and myself the visa run every month will amount to quite a bit and the hassle factor of having to do the run every month too. x

Hi Nadia, a few of my friends and I have used Creative Zone for business set up. They are based at the fairmont hotel on sheikh zayed road. They definately have a freelancer option there and i believe the trade license is about 17,000dhs... my friend did exactly the same as you and as long as you enter the uae every six months, its not an issue - as far as i know. I know they are offering some special promotions this month because of ramadhan so you might be able to get a good deal! they have a website with info and pricing, but your best bet would be to call them or pop in and see them HTH's

probably a virtuzone company visa is better option, still costs 30,000 cca + 6,000 / person for visas, but at least no business plan or accounts submission requirement, and the visas are ok for 3 years. in the second year and after it costs cca 15,000 a year for the registration but nothing is as cheap as the visa runs... or coming on a 3 month emirates airlines visa...

No implications really. many people (property owners mainly) set up 'businesses' a s a means to a residential visa. DMC freelance licenses cost an absolute arm and a leg . Cheapest options come in at the equivalent of approx AED 40, 000 a year (inc. a visa) edited by Mother Inferior. on 16/08/2011

Technically yes a freelance visa gives you the right to stay in the UAE, get a bank account etc etc. However, you have to submit a business plan and annual accounts. So you would need to have a small client base to turn over. They can work out to be expensive. It also depends what type of work you do. Freelance licences mostly exist in the media relm.
