Morning Ladies, looking for some advice,
My cat has been missing for around 2 wks now, I ve done the rounds asking neighbours & one has told me he thinks he saw him lying dead on the road, obviously I'm pretty devastated by this & the worst part is not knowing for sure, I'm still leaving the patio door open a crack at night incase he comes home & waking up gutted every morning,
Do any of u know if there s a way of finding out if it was him? Like would the police be informed if someone hit a cat? Or who would remove him from the road? He was microchipped,
I know I'm clutching at straws here but it's driving me crazy,

Thanks

Scottishbambi I'm really sorry to say this but there looked to be a cat on the road by the "pineapple" building yesterday- I couldn't stop as there was traffic on both sides. It was a tortoiseshell which looked very small and skinny - almost looked feral. I really hope it wasn't your pet. I almost didn't post this as I didn't want to upset anyone but not knowing must be awful! Thanks for posting kemsmum, I'm relieved to say it was nt mine, he's black, I hope whoever's cat it was can find him or find out, not knowing really is awful, I'm begining to realise this happens a lot here, was talking to my neighbour yesterday & her cat was killed on the road here too, at home this would be really rare but people seem to drive like maniacs here!

Artemis, I think that's a brilliant idea about gardeners having to report to security, might start a petition!

Thank you so much for replying ladies, I did nt think about the gardeners, I ll def ask them, I'm in Silicon Oasis, our villa backs onto a main outside road & I caught him over there a couple of times, I don't know how he got over! He could get up on the garden wall but it's a big drop at the other side! The drive like maniacs out there so it seems likely it was him, but u don't want to give up hope, he did nt have a collar on, he had one but it broke recently so chances are I won't know, Does the same apply for dogs here? I know back home u would have to report if u hit a dog but not a cat, which does nt seem fair cause we love them just the same, Thanks again for ur help, I ll keep u posted

[i'>so I spoke to security and asked them to leave a note for all the guards that cat was killed by a car in case anyone came asking. I have my doubts the owners ever found out in either case [/i'> Wow, that confirms my worst suspicions. Good for you Daza for intervening to alert the guards, but as you say, the likelihood of that information being transmitted to the cats' owners is pretty minimal. Sad stuff. I wonder if there is anyway to get the policy on this amended so that the gardeners inform the gate guys when they find dead cats and give a description of them? I'm hoping that it doesn't happen very often, but given the insane way some people drive around here and given the fact that speeding appears to have zero penalties, perhaps it happens more frequently than one would imagine.

Daza, that's very sad, it's what I've suspected might happen. Do you happen to know how the cats died? Were they hit by cars? I wonder if there was any effort to contact the cats' owners, how dismal if there were not because they would be the same position as the OP. I wish there was a more concerted effort here to treat pets as pets, instead of disposable items. It's not the gardeners fault, no doubt this is what they've been instructed to do. Yes, both hit by cars. One of the times I posted a description on here. The other time I didn't get a good look at the cat but it was by a security gate so I spoke to security and asked them to leave a note for all the guards that cat was killed by a car in case anyone came asking. I have my doubts the owners ever found out in either case :(

I'm really sorry your cat is missing Scottishbambi. Just to re-iterate what Artemis2 is saying, depending on where you are, make sure you check with gardeners in your area. I'm in the Ranches and on two occasions I've seen community gardeners putting a dead cat in to a bag and taking them away.

Hi Scottish, That's awful, our cat went missing for a couple of days and I was very worried, so I really feel for you. I've often wondered about this question myself, I think who you should contact depends on where you live. Do you live in a community, like Ranches? If so, speak to all the security guards on the gates near your villa and give them posters with pictures of your cat, also ask them how dead pets are removed, so you can directly contact the relevant authority. Was your cat wearing an ID tag and DM tag? Unfortunately unless they are wearing a DM tag, being microchipped might not help because they won't be scanned, this is what I was told, but I don't know if it's true. Can you ask your neighbour exactly when he saw your cat and how certain he is about the identity? I know it's very distressing, but my advice is to go and knock on doors, carry a poster of your cat with a reward advertised, make contact with maids and gardeners in your area, someone will have seen something. Also, he might have got into a fight and be hiding somewhere near, best time to look is dusk, call his name, walk around your area, shake his food to attract his attention. The best of luck Scottish and if you get any clarity on this matter, please post it here as other people might benefit from finding out. I know that there was a letter in [i'>Seven Days [/i'>from a distraught guy whose cat was run over by some idiotic driver who didn't even bother to stop. This in a residential community where numpties are continually breaking the speed limit. Disgraceful. Good luck Bambi, I hope you find him.

I am so sorry you are going through this. the police will not be able to help you. you can try the municipality but that's also a long shot. go on the facebook group bin kitty collective they might have heard something as they are by far the best to know things about missing and finding cats.
