Hi Ladies - have heard lots of good things about Coconut Water (not the milk) that is sold bottled. Is it available in Dubai? I looked at Organic Foods in Dubai Mall but not available there.

There are fresh nuts in the Waitrose in Dubai Mall -- you will see them in the veggie section at the entrance but they've had some of their top shaved into a point to make it easy for you to chop open at home. p.s. in the Caribbean, coconut water and Scotch is a popular drink! Yum!

Yep agree with them all. Bottled is almost artificial...... not one drop tastes like the real stuff. If you can get the tops cut off from the tender ones, you can bring a whole carton full back home. Then all you need to do is insert a knife, look out for the spout of water, cut a square, put a straw in, kick back, and love it. Star fruits in Satwa is a great place to get them. 04-3446597. If you want to make sure there are plenty, give them a call first. Star Fruits in the same lane as Iranian Hospital Emergency.

You'll get fresh coconut water in most of the small groceries and cafes in Karama, Bur Dubai, Satwa, etc.... it's usually Dhs. 4 per coconut. And I agree with the others, avoid the bottled ones and go for the fresh.

Spinneys Umm Sequim sell fresh coconuts (only since the last month) and they are with the fresh cut watermelon and pommegranite seeds at the end of an aisle. Hack into one of these and use the water. I have coconut water every morning in my smoothies and I love them. To choose a good fresh coconut shake it, and if you cant hear the water sloshing about its full and young. Smell the water once you open the coconut and check that it does not smell of vinegar. If it smells like vinegar chuck it out, its not good! Great choice to use coconut water, its delicious and good for you! I have found that the canned coconut juice in Dubai is full of sugar and not particularly tasty. I will use it in an emergency if I cant get fresh one but the best is fresh. edited by Ilovechoos on 05/08/2011

it is indeed excellent for you. just buy young (tender) coconuts, chop the top off and stick a straw in. In certain cafes in Satwa/Bur Dubai/Karama you can buy them like this with the straw in and have them chilled or not. Otherwise places like Lulu will sell them. :) (the coconut water that is sold in places like choitrams in cans, is sweetened etc)
