I need your help: I need to get a new cooking range .We are moving to a new place and the kitchen has space to accommodate a large cooker . I have a small Indesit one with electric oven . I had bad experience with large cooking range as I could never regulate the oven temperature. I need to know which brand, gas or ceramic, oven gas or electric and do the ceramic use a lot of electricity. TIA

Thanks for your replies. I will get an electric oven as it is easier to control the temperature. I am thinking of ceramic hob but worried about the electric bill. Cymraes how bad is it?

I had a siemens gas oven and hob, hob was fantastic but gas oven burnt everything (I'm not a bad cook honest!) now have a Scholtes ceramic hob and electric oven and I love it - can't believe I put up with that horrid gas thing for so long!

We have a Fisher and paykel with Gas hobb and electric oven. The oven is easy to control, but does run 25 degrees too hot - so I just adjust the temp down. (When it says 175, I set it too 150). Got it from Betterhomes? When we were looking only found 2 that were Gas hobb and electric oven - Electrolux and F&P...though there probably are others. I have the same oven and love it. I depends on what setting you put it if the temp is a too hot or not. It's not a good as my Boretti at home, but then that's a different price range too.

I heart my Smeg. Gas oven and burner, have had it for 5 months now and , touchwood, so far so good. No burnt food, food cooks in the time recommended in recipes, easy to clean and looks good. Got it from Betterlife in MOE. Smeg have electric oven/gas burner ones too but they are at the higher end pricewise and feature - wise. Have no experience with Betterlife's after sale service but they installed the oven, explained how to use it and did it all neatly and with no fuss. One of the biggest reasons for us to pick Smeg as a brand was there were hardly any in the 2nd hand market. Took that as a good sign. Will know in time, I guess.

Cant remember what mine is but its not one of the ones you mentiin we got ours from carrefour or geant cant remember that either!!!!! Really push the sales guys as they do exist and its great to have electric oven so if you run out of gas your dinner is not spoiled!!!!! edited by Clairehdp on 16/04/2011 edited by Clairehdp on 16/04/2011

Is the oven temperature easy to control? I used to have these big gas cooking ranges and found the oven would either burn the food or not cook it.

My mother had a Bompani gas cooker whilst she was here so we bought one too and have never had a problem plus it didn't cost a fortune. Small gas bottle last us 3 - 4 months.
