hello nmh2015
I am currently looking into setting up a Mental Health Support Group (free of charge). I used to work as a mental health professional and would like to run it with someone with experience of mental illness. If you are interested, I wonder if Admin could help us get in touch.
Let me know if you are
Hello,
I just moved to Dubai for the States in December. I am here on my own and the work at my company is not the environment I expected. I have a chronic history of depression and anxiety and am on medication, however since coming here the stress of a new place and my work environment has made it all very worse.
Does anyone know of any community support groups for anxiety and depression? I tried the German Neuroscience center and they dont have them anymore.
I do not have much money so hence why I am looking for a support group rather than one on one sessions.
Thanks!
Welcome to Dubai! The transition here can be tough.
You could try the churches in Jebel Ali, the might have some groups or someone you could talk to. I know St. Mary's in Oud Metha and St. Francis have some competent folks--it's charity based, open to non-parishioners and doesn't have to be religious.
I hope you find something that helps!

There are a few groups that organise meet ups to support each other. http://www.meetup.com/anxiety-depression-self-help-meetup/
Do a search on meetup, also, I've heard that the Human Relations institute at jlt organise support groups, however only after screening and professional sessions.
Simething to look into, online support groups, run by professional psychiatristic and psychologist which are available 24x7.
Wish you all the best in your transition to this country.
Hi :),
Good day. Hope you are doing great and fine. I want to share to you ways to reduce anxiety that I tried and tested to be truly helpful. I do hope you can apply these to yourself.
Keep a Gratitude Journal
We often spend so much time focused on what is wrong and what we are frustrated by. Taking time each day to journal about what you are most grateful for can be on of the most powerful daily activities. You can add into this your breathing, meditation and prayer practices where you remind yourself of what you are most grateful for.
Positive Visualization
Take time to see the best possible outcome for your present concern. Don't only visualize the best possible outcome of whatever you are worried about, but also take time to visualize yourself confident and relaxed in whatever challenging future circumstance may come about.
Laugh More
"Laughter is our best medicine". This is so true when it comes to the feelings of anxiety and worry. The best type of laughing for someone with anxiety would be general chuckles and light joking. This can be extremely restorative. Avoid massive laughter episodes which can trigger the release of more stress hormones.
Benefits of Laughter:
> stimulates endorphins
> reduces stress hormones
> enhances creativity
> boosts anti-aging hormones
> makes life more enjoyable
Ground your Body
Go outside daily and walking barefoot on grass, dirt or sand, you absorb natural toxic electromagnetic frequency's (EMF's) from the ground that balance our electrical rhythms. Follow these steps:
> take off your shoes while walking
> sit down barefoot
> let your body touch the earth
> sit on a tree
Deep breathing
One of the best practices for reducing stress, worry and fear is taking time to take long, deep breaths. This practice takes you out of the sympathetic fight or flight mode and puts us into a parasympathetic mode that dampens the hot areas of the brain and allows us to rest and heal.
Practice for 5-10+ minutes while applying positive visualization to help calm and relax your body and mind.
Supplement with Magnesium
Magnesium helps to improve the brain's stress response by protecting the neurons from over excitation. It also maintains the integrity of the blood brain barrier and reduces the amount of stress hormones that are able to get into the brain. Additionally, it helps to balance and stabilize blood sugar levels.
Stay hydrated. Drinking 8 - 16 oz of clean water or water with lemon or essential oils added can be one of the best ways to tone down the brain and put us back at ease. I recommend beginning your day with a glass of water first thing in the morning and drinking 2 glasses every 2 hours throughout the day. Your goal should be a minimum of half your body weight in ounces of water each day.
Avoid caffeine and sugar. Practice neurobic.
Do all these along with your medication and keep the company of people who will bring out the best of yourself. Be happy all the time and always believe that a bit of MIRACLE is waiting for you somewhere behind the radiant sunlight and put LOVE in everything you do.
