Just got final bill for our old house. Having paid nearly 7000aed for one month, they charged us 3500aed for.....wait for it....the last THREE DAYS. They conveniently made the original final bill of 1500aed, which was paid immediately, and have now said that they are keeping our 2000aed deposit too as the final bill was actually more although they won't give us a new bill. Creative accounting at its best. I'm sick of it.

I think prices are going to go up, and up and up here until inflation hits a such a point that the country will go bust again

we're at The Villa and we have two boxes, one for the water (a clock on a blue pump thingy) and a regular electricity meter (looks like the UK one) in a separate box on the opposite wall in the garden. Don't know if that helps you ....

I've just gone out to read our meter but can only see a reading for what I think is the water? I live in the lakes, can anyone help me with where I need to look and what I'm reading? thanks.

Oh don't get me started on DEWA bill, we have been trying since last Sept (2010) to get our bill sorted out. They had the wrong address for us, the wrong meter numbers, and even we managed to get the electric meter the to the righ number, they still managed to take the wrong meter reading!! I have take the meter readings since about nov and have managed to work out what my bill should cost using excell, which would usually come to something like just over 1000 per month and they send bill for about 9000 per month, although the last one was for 29000. Needless the say we haven't paid them!! We are in 4 bed villa with just my husband, myself and our daughter. we have been to the dewa office numerous times and they still manage to get everything wrong!!!

we had a mega one 4,500aed in April, got it down to 1,200 in May and just paid 1,550 for April, we're in 4 bed with pool and garden. The majority of the bill is electric (which surprised me with the pool and garden). We're also keeping an eye on the meter, are disputing the April whopper with Dewa .... ETA trying to switch more things off, we're generally really good, minimal ac during day, 2 units upstairs on at night and trying to switch things off standby, thankfully DS doesn't shower very often so we can't blame him! edited by cymraes on 05/07/2011 edited by cymraes on 05/07/2011

Just one thing.... I live in apartment and the meters are locked in the common area. How do I check them? No security, so what I do?

Going to do the same! We've been having high bills for such a long time and can't figure out where they are coming from. This month is a real whopper at nearly 5000 drh. We're 2 ppl living in 3 bed villa in the Ranches, with a pool. We keep the temp at about 24/25 all the time. Don't shower for hours etc and turn off lights. Have had the house checked for leaks etc but they can't find anything!

Aussiepup, we had the same thing... I took a meter reading myself and it was out by a huge amount compared to what their 'reading' was on the bill. I took a picture of the meter and sent it to DEWA with a strongly worded email... They came back to me basically telling me to get it checked by an external technician because there's probably something wrong with our electrics. Eh? There's nothing wrong with our electrics, only with the DEWA technician who can't read a meter properly. I emailed them back again, again attaching the pictures of our meter reading and now they're sending someone round to take a new reading. Don't let them fob you off! It's ridiculous and I'm so cross at them... Good luck!

B*gger me our DEWA Bill is 9000 dirhams for a 3 bedroom in the lakes! Last month it was 7000, what in the name is going on!? I'm checking out previous bills to see what they were to see if we have a water leak somewhere but that is just not on! 9000 dirhams is disgraceful.
