My 11 year old regularly asks for Call of Duty, Halo etc. He insists that ALL his friends are allowed games for older ages. He's not allowed anything over 12. Is this the norm in Dubai or common anywhere?

My 12 year old doesn't play adult games although when he goes to friends' houses they all seem to play them - one friend in particular has a father who plays them and doesn't care what the kids do. They watch films that are too old for them too. Unfortunately you can't do much about it, apart from in your own home. I don't believe these games are good for kids even though they obviously understand they're not real.

My kids have XBOX 360, XBOX ONE, PS3, PS4, and the WIIU, they play most games that are available, the are very aware these are games and not real life, it has given them good hand eye co-ordination. They enjoy the challenge of building, working out how to do things and the complex strategies you need to play in the games, they also get to play with there friends online. There are certain games I have not allowed, but all in all they are very well versed, and know what is right and wrong, I would say its up to every individual to decide what is best for their kids

I have 3 children and no Xbox (yet). My children asked for one when they played with one at a friend's house, but I just tell them when they are older they can get one. That was 2 years ago lol. They forgot about it since.

No. No. No. I don't see how a game that involves killing other people can be good for kids. Some kids I know do play it but those kids are a bit strange and I don't like my son playing with kids like that.

My husband has played these games for years and our son has asked many times, but we didn't allow it until this year. He's now 14.5 years old and I think it's definitely the youngest I would have let him do it. I think it's really dependent on the maturity of the child...but to be honest I do think 11 is too young. Young children can find it difficult to compartmentalize on-screen, simulated violence. It could skew his understanding of reality. There are studies on both sides of this argument though. If you feel like you have to choose one over another I would choose Halo over COD. Around 14 I would allow COD. Games like GTA I would never allow him to play while he lives under my roof. Hope that helps... <-- That's how I'm seen ever since I drastically cut out Minecraft from my 4.5 and 7.5 year old daughters.
