And they're now suing the owners and the organisers. I feel sad for the poodle, it was a horrible incident. But I don't think the Staffi should be punished for other people negligence. that dog should be put down. No he should not be. The organisers and owners should be. Probably that too, but once an animal has shown that level of aggression it really does need to be destroyed for the safety of all other animals as well as for any children around it. I dont agree i am sorry...one dog has died already....

I will probably get shot down for saying this but surely the fact this 'killer' dog is in the muncipility pound pending an investigation should be some comfort to the family of the poodle, no doubt the staff will end up being put to sleep which i dont agree with. A friend witnessed the whole incident who actually said the poodle came up behind the staff and started the attack. I am not sure suing the owners of the staff and the organisers is the way to go. Why not instead recommend some measures like certain breeds should be muzzled in light of this event taking place. There were lots of dangerous looking dogs there but most of them were very tame and i saw children hugging a few of them under supervision All that will happen is the pet show will get cancelled next year for everyone which would be a real shame as it is something a lot of us look forward to every year. edited by Bracey777 on 06/02/2012

a banned dogs list is to come into effect, which has attracted 50 comments already... edited by Sue62 on 06/02/2012 I thought there was already a banned dog list in the UAE? Yes, there is I believe.

very sad letter on the UAE pet lovers F B page from the owners of the murdered dog...they seem to have removed the comment thread from yesterday... they've also posted an article in Gulf news saying a banned dogs list is to come into effect, which has attracted 50 comments already... edited by Sue62 on 06/02/2012

sorry for being so naive, but do alot of people have pits here, i havent seen one? gangs of boys?? who is buying them? id love to know how they get here....? We have one on our street here in AR's. It's a Pakistani guy that "walks" him. The dog has a huge chain collar on and a thick rope and drags the guy down the street. The guy has no control of it. We also have a husband and wife a few houses down, they have two dogs, one looks like a mutt and they are out of control. Their dogs are medium size dogs and are very aggressive to other dogs on our street. One day I heard a dog fight out front and screaming and the wife yelling tostop it, stop hurting the dog. The dog had gone after another dog yet again and Lost it and starting pinning the dog down on the ground and his wife kept screaming at him that neighbors were coming out looking and to stop it. They have no control over these dogs and even though they aren't listed as official "aggressive" breeds, they are very aggressive dogs. The last time I saw them some poor maid was walking her three small dogs and the couple's dogs went after her and she ran across the street and hid behind a wall until they passed. When I went out to check on her I told her those dogs needed to be removed from this neighborhood and she just kept saying, "It's okay madam, I can just hide behind here when they come by." Why on earth should anyone have to hide from another dog on their daily walk? These dogs or owners should be reported tell us where they live, I do not want to walk my 2 children and dogs past them if this is going to happen. Pls pls do let us know where in the Miradors this is happening? Street 1 by the entrance gate has the pit bull. It's not out often but when it's out, it's dragging it's owner. Street 1 also has the two aggressive dogs with the owner and a wife that pushes a baby buggy or carries the baby in a front sling. If you see that couple with those dogs, leave and leave immediately! Have you seen the big German Shepard on the back side of Mirador on the golf course that is chained up in the front side yard? Whenever you walk by it barks and lunges at people passing by. Wow are they new here? Not seen them b4 but doesn't sound good at all. Can we, would you? complain about the aggressive ones with the dh? Yes have seen the Shepherd round the back he is obviously a guard dog and have seen him lunging, but I have also seen him out with the children and he seemed friendly with them, however! I have been a bit concerned about him when walking past as he does look like he might somehow get out from behind the fence and that's me and 1 of my little dogs on the otherside of the road minding our own business hhmmmm. I think I know where they live, I'm 99% sure, and yes if I see them out again and the dogs are aggressive again, I will go straight to security.

I never said it should not be on leash....it just should not be in hands of kids espcially in a place where there are 100's of dogs! I still cant get over the incident of what happened :( only if we could turn back time! edited by neelam.serai on 05/02/2012 I actually did mean to ask so what is a pet dog for if a child cant hold it on the lead? It just seems that some people are determined to blame the owners of the dead dog for having a part in their dogs death. Its all quite sickening really. A little girl was at a dog show with her dog and another one came along and killed it. And yes, I have dogs, two of them.

It surely wouldn't have been difficult for Police and a vet to man the entrance with a list of breeds that must be muzzled. And staff could be provided to move around marshalling, and making sure muzzles stay on. No muzzle for your listed breed and you should be fined... A bit of extra effort maybe, but then this otherwise fun day may run the risk of a tragedy happening again. There must be something that can be done???

What happened sounds truly horrible. What it comes down to though is that, no matter how much you believe your breed of dog is safe, sweet, whatever, if other people have deemed it not so then MUZZLE IT at an event like this!! Sorry but there are a lot of self styled experts on breeds who have decided based on their own experiences that certain breeds are misjudged. Fine, probably true in most cases, but honestly in an environment where there are hundreds of dogs and kids running around, why take the risk? Anyone who moans about having to muzzle poor fluffy should get a proverbial slap; it's not an electric collar, it's a muzzle, and it may save your dog's life as well as others. What's done is done and now these people and this dog will have to face the consequences, whatever they are. They should have muzzled it, plain and simple.

It is a sad fact of life that for all the responsible dog owners and kind and gentle dogs, there are always a few idiots out there who will end up spoiling it for the former. But then again, the 'killer' dog in question may well have been a saint ordinarily and something made him turn. My mother bears scars on her face from her family pet turning on her for no apparent reason.

This incident is really sad.....the family is in my prayers who lost their dog. I even know the exact story of what happened at the scene. Firstly I do not understand, be it a small dog or big dog, never ever give the leash to kids to handle. If your kids want to walk them, please let this happen only when ur dog is alone at parks or for a walk to pee and poo. As per what I saw...the big dog was on tight leash..he wasn't left loose.....and small dog was on loose leash....apparently small dog snapped at the big dog and vice versa. This is no justification that the big dog owners are not at fault, but the small dog owners were also careless. I had taken my small dog too, but seeing all big dogs I decided you never know how each dog's temperament is so carried my pup in my hands when required! And giving the dog leash to your kid??????? sERIOUSLY?????? I had kids in family who wanted to hold the leash..I strictly said no...... This incident couldn't have been avoided all times, provided both pet owners had been careful!!!!:(:( So what is a pet for if not to be able to hold it on a lead?

While I was in the queue with my dog - waiting to get in -[b'> there was an enormous Rottie who was muzzled, lunging at every other dog going past. I love this breed and have known many gentle ones, but this dog had no place being at the show. He was purely a status symbol and the owner could barely hold him. The dog in front of us was a German Shepherd who did the same, snapping and lunging. These dogs are either always aggresive dogs and shouldn't be there in the first place or are reacting to a stressful situation and should have been taken home. [/b'>Each year there are a group of Pitbulls there who are beautifully behaved and are true ambassadors for the breed! But this dog should be put to sleep as you never know what it may kill next. Sad but true. As to the vet and her thermometer - yuk. Same one, time after time. But no one bothered to check the saluki pup in the bedouin tent - it was covered in ticks and when I pointed it out to the man in the tent - he ignored me!!! I won't be going back again. ps. (The only dog to have bitten me was a cocker spaniel!) Did anyone say anything to the owners of the dogs? I would have, and the owners should have been refused entry to the show. Poor dogs...stressed out of their minds. edited by Green-ish on 05/02/2012
