Why have a banned breed list if people are able to freely roam around with them?? I think it's a bit of a lost-in-translation thing. None of the breeds in the list are actually "banned"...they just have certain restrictions placed on them when in public, restrictions the organisers of the pet show don't enforce. Then again, I've never seen the muzzling enforced anywhere in Dubai.

Seems as if there are now alot of sides to the story. Also Seems as if there were alot of problems at the show with unruly kids and dogs. ????

sorry but the dog needs to be destroyed - it has killed another dog. Next time it could be a child. Lucky this time it wasn't a child. Harsh but it has to euthanised. I'm with you, Fulla! Off with his head! (And that of the irresponsible owner, but perhaps that's going a little too far?) don't read the FB page then....

Just an update, apparently the dog in question has been confiscated and is now being held at the municipality pound awaiting an inquest. I will be so sad to see this dog punished because of its owners misguided mistake. edited by Chocs01 on 05/02/2012 Poor dog...but this is what happens around the world. I do feel for the owners as no doubt they feel pretty bl**dy awful now...but what's the consequence for them? No matter what the small dog did, they did not have control over their large, powerful animal. Sadly, it is that simple. What a waste, on both sides. :(

I am fuming after reading the Facebook page in question. Now trying to blame to Poodle for yapping?!?!? Really it just sickens me. The dog should have been muzzled end of. Family dog or not. Now to see so called animals lovers refer to the "damn poodle" makes my blood boil and goes beyond just having an opinion. Would it have been the "damn child" if the situation different? Exactly!! its just bizarre!!!

FYI, On the UAE Pet Loves Facebook page, a lady explains that she spoke to the owner of the Amstaff. She says that the dog lives with young children, another amstaff and a yorkie and never never had any problems. "They have a small yourki living with them too, something went wrong that minute, the poodle came by surprise, sadly there was no muzzle, and everything happened to quick". Yikes...I hope she was not justifying the owner's decisions to have it off leash and to leave without attempting to make amends?? I also hope the owners are now aware their dog can probably never again be trusted off leash or around small dogs. No, not at all, she just realised she knew the owner (a friend of a friend or something like that, dont know the woman myself, just quoting what I red on facebook) and wanted to have his side of the story. She also posted a picture of the dog with his other dog friend and yorkie friend together in the family garden. It seems the owner is also devastated of what happened and very scared of the consequences for his own dog... i believe the person who posted that on FB is a prolific abandoned animal poster here - yet i don't think she has contributed to this thread yet.... so tragic for the little girl to have to witness all that and i do have some sympathy with the guilty dog.. That pet lover FB page is certainly an eye opener... :\:

Don't want to start a debate...but, genuine questions here - can you ever really train a dog that has that sort of nature, maybe the owners believed he was fully trained? How do you ever know, if you have that sort of breed, that your dog is trained not to behave in that way, and can you ever really train sufficiently a dangerous dog breed? Isn't it just in their nature and could come out at any time?

This incident is really sad.....the family is in my prayers who lost their dog. I even know the exact story of what happened at the scene. Firstly I do not understand, be it a small dog or big dog, never ever give the leash to kids to handle. If your kids want to walk them, please let this happen only when ur dog is alone at parks or for a walk to pee and poo. As per what I saw...the big dog was on tight leash..he wasn't left loose.....and small dog was on loose leash....apparently small dog snapped at the big dog and vice versa. This is no justification that the big dog owners are not at fault, but the small dog owners were also careless. I had taken my small dog too, but seeing all big dogs I decided you never know how each dog's temperament is so carried my pup in my hands when required! And giving the dog leash to your kid??????? sERIOUSLY?????? I had kids in family who wanted to hold the leash..I strictly said no...... This incident couldn't have been avoided all times, provided both pet owners had been careful!!!!:(:(

this makes me really sad. I was in the area when this happened and saw a man run towards us with the limp dog...there was blood on the ground...it was heartbreaking to hear the dog had dead.

Anyway even on leash dogs can fight, they become more aggressive when they feel constricted. Of course some breeds do not have mouths but mechanical presses, they are so strong that they are dangerous by default. But I do not have the heart to incriminate the dogs, it is so bad when they have to be put to sleep for their "crimes", soooo many incidents would be avoided just with some education, knowledge, common sense and respect towards humans and animals from the owners' side. Pets are not toys. And some animals can not be pets. That can be a start. ...and some people should not be owners.

After the incident, they were insisting that all the dogs in the dog park were on leads. I let my scamp off and he found a couple of similar doggies to have a play with, but we all kept a close eye on them. There was one giant husky who kept coming over and trying to mount one poor other dog - also a male - the husky was getting a bit much and the owner didn't do much about it. The fact of the matter is, the organisers should not have allowed any dog on the banned list in without a muzzle! I'd like to hear from the organisers why this wasn't being enforced. I thought it was going to all be a bit much for my wee one, but he got loads of attention and didn't bother about the children hanging off his tail half the time. Now had it been my old dog, I wouldn't even have considered taking her as she hated children and would have had a go.

Hmm that makes it even sadder Titotu, though i find it odd that the dog would snap so quickly and so vicously. if it did get annoyed, then a bite or growl first but straight out attack the dog. Bit odd imho.

Wow, i didnt see or notice the off the leash park. thank god, i wouldnt let me little jack russell as dont trust the other dogs. So many kids came up to us and started pulling and petting him- he is ridiculously friendly so it was fine but everywhere i went someone was touching him. Not one person asked me if it was ok. he has a very cute face so i know that ppl think he is sweet and immediately touch him but imagine if had been annoyed by too many hands! Sundevil- that i shocking bad!! There are about 9 dogs on my street alone and all so friendly and used to each other, i can only imagine how disruptive a few badly trained dogs are!

sorry for being so naive, but do alot of people have pits here, i havent seen one? gangs of boys?? who is buying them? id love to know how they get here....? We have one on our street here in AR's. It's a Pakistani guy that "walks" him. The dog has a huge chain collar on and a thick rope and drags the guy down the street. The guy has no control of it. We also have a husband and wife a few houses down. They have two dogs, one looks like a mutt and they are out of control. Their dogs are medium size dogs and are very aggressive to other dogs on our street. One day I heard a dog fight out front and screaming and the wife yelling to stop it, stop hurting the dog. The dog had gone after another dog yet again and the owner lost it and starting pinning the dog down on the ground and his wife kept screaming at him that neighbors were coming out looking and to stop it. They have no control over these dogs and even though they aren't listed as official "aggressive" breeds, they are very aggressive dogs. The last time I saw them some poor maid was walking her three small dogs and the couple's dogs went after her and she ran across the street and hid behind a wall until they passed. When I went out to check on her I told her those dogs needed to be removed from this neighborhood and she just kept saying, "It's okay madam, I can just hide behind here when they come by." Why on earth should anyone have to hide from another dog on their daily walk?
