Has anyone had a dress made to measure in Satwa? I am going to a black tie ball in the UK in a few weeks and though about getting a dress made. Has anyone had this done? I'd love on like the yellow one Kate Hudson wears to the diamond dinner in How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. Would it be possible to get this made from a picture? If so where would I go? And how much roughly would it cost?

TIA

SherylR, have just had 2 'prom' dresses made in Satwa. Used 2 different tailors as I was afraid that we would end up with dresses that looked obviously homemade. Both ball gown dresses were from pictures and both made from satin and chiffon. First dress was at Coventry tailors, they were very quick, cheap, no fittings but the bust of the dress did not fit well and I did not want him fiddling with it while it was on my daughter. The overall finish was not bad and had the top fitted and stayed up…..we might have gotten away with this dress. The second gown was probably a little more difficult and we had it done at Neha tailors, he charged double the price of Coventry. This tailor was a LOT slower and required 2 fittings. The dress fitted perfectly, he had boned the bust and done quite a lot of pleating and gathering on the bodice. However… there was a lot of pin damage to the fabric and some of the pleating/gathering was not great. Overall the workmanship on both gowns lacked finesse and the gentle handling which specialised fabrics require. I think the thing to realise is that there is a big difference between’ tailors and dress makers’ and there don’t seem to be many dress makers in Dubai. We ended up buying two dresses in the end.
