I have been suffering from a red eye for more than 5 months now..it comes and goes. Sometimes it is worse and sometimes almost gone. I saw 2 doctors already. Initially I believed it was a pink eye. Antibiotic eye drops helped but after some time the problem started again.However the last doctor told me my eyes were just very dry and that was the cause. She gave me some lubricant eye drops which helped at the beginning, but now it is coming back again..I dont know whom to trust. Do you have any advice???

farsi77, I can understand how frustrating it can be to suffer from dry eye and especially when treatment seems to stop working after a while. A reputable doctor should also need to understand the underlying cause of your dry eye (environmental, anatomical, or physical/medical) in order to address your issue properly. The quality as well as which deficient layer of the tear also need to be evaluated as some treatments work best for certain type of deficiencies. There are more than a handful of treatments out there, but they are problem specific and so what works for me may not work for you due to the underlying cause. Ophthalmologists specialize in anterior segment ie corneal specialists/refractive surgeons will be the best people to see, such as Dr. Rao at City Hospital, Dr. Huda at Atlanta Vision Clinic to name a couple. Good luck :)

I went to see a really good ophthalmolgist in the City Hospital just yesterday to get a comprehensive set of tests done and also glaucoma assessment. One of the issue identified was dry eyes and I have been prescribed some eye drops to use for a month and was hold to go back and review to see if I need to continue with the drops. Apparently, as I understand it, the drops can help heal dry eyes and then you don't need to use them any more, but you need to be assessed to see whether you could stop or need to continue. The ophthalmologist is called Dr Anupuma Rao and I highly recommend her. Rather than stabbing in the dark, go make an appointment and get the professional guidance you need ongoing, it should all be covered by your insurance - mine was. <em>edited by Sugarbeach on 16/11/2011</em>

I have dry eyes and use "Refresh Plus' drops and they work fine for me. They are in a green box and a month's supply is about 20 dhs. Each application is individually sealed so they don't have to be used up within the month.

I have an eye condition that's affected by scarring and residual effects from a severe polymicrobial eye infection I had about a year ago. It's aggravated by the fine dust here. My eye doc back home recommended I wash my eyes daily with Johnson's Baby Shampoo. I brought some with me when we moved. Allows me to really clean them well without being painful (I know it sounds weird). I also use lubricating drops.
