Our family goes away for EID but our dog will stay with our maid.
During EID is our maid suppose to work ?
Do i have to give her extra money because she will have to look after our dog ?

You can't say that a maid is mistreated because they don't get a day off for Eid - everyone's situation is so different. I'm not going to come on here and blab on about how much free time my maid gets in the Summer when I am not here or how little she has to do in the house now that we are much less in numbers - but she does! Everyone has a different set of circumstances to deal with..

I've just given 3 days off to my nanny and she is going to spend them with her sister and sister's family. She is a human being and she needs to have a break, we are having 3 days off so wouldn't she? She because they are less fortunate and have to work as maids doesn't mean they have to be mistreated. She is looking after my baby and my house and taking care of us and I have to take care of her. If she does a mistake or will abuse, she will surely know that I am not happy at all about it.

But does it matter if they sleep out three nights a week, so long as they are at home when you need them to be, and capable of doing their job effectively? For some people (I suspect I will be one of them when I finally get round to finding a maid) the more time they spend outside of the house in their 'down-time' the better! And surely they are happier that way? I have really good sized maid's quarters with her own bathroom, space for us to give her a small kitchenette of her own, and all self-contained on the top floor away from us - and I am STILL stressing about how I will cope having her around the house 24/7. Well, time, experience - and a maid - will tell, won't they? Plus, remember, as their sponsor, you are responsible for them, completely. If they fall pregnant, somebody will be asking you questions.

and even more now that I have read some of the other threads on here!!! It sounds like a jolly for some of these girls - sleeping out 3 nights a week etc? what?:\:

Certainly agree with that last statement.

I would never tell them which days off they will get. Tell them it will be a case by case basis, depending on your movements/work/visitors etc. Some of the maids are taking you all for rides.

The best way is to set the number of days off except the normal weekly off and let her consume that whenever she wants, Easter, Xmas, Eid, Diwali wso.

When a maid starts her employment with me I ask what religion/holidays she observes - if Christian she gets some time off at Christmas and Easter (and her birthday) but not all of the local holidays too!!

We are going away for two days so my maid will take those days off. Otherwise, she would normally work and just have the Friday off. I find that when you start to give days off here and there, it then becomes an expectation

We are wondering about the same question .... Hubby very likely won't be able to take days off over Eid too - but if he does, probably only for 1 day. And that day, I'd like to organise some family during the day and some time alone just DH and I in the evening. She is not a muslim and has ample time off during the day when LO is at school - and it's not that she will be working 'full time' during the time off - just want her to be on stand by if possible. Are we mean to give her 1 day plus her usual day off? we will give her Xmas off regardsless ....

She should work. Charming! I wonder what your reaction would be if your employer said you had to work all over Eid too. edited by Chocs01 on 26/10/2011 I have always had to work holidays, as does DH, as did my father too. I was brought up to believe your work comes first. This Eid will be the first one that DH 'might' get off, but I am sure he will be called in at some stage.

You choice really. But obviously she will HAVE to be there for your dog. I am going to give my HB one day off for Eid, no don't think you have to pay extra if she works, after all there will be far less to do if you are away. Ok thanks. I am often lost with what i am suppose to do..
