Thank you ladies for your replies. We have looked at pprune and not sure if this going to be a good move....but then again where is aviation is a good move! We have lived in Dubai before and love it and are well aware of the pitfalls, but life is not always greener on the other side. Thank you again ? HI dxbrw. We have just moved earlier on this year to DXB. My hubby is on the 777 roster. So far its been ok. I think its nice as there is a mixture of long haul flights and turn arounds. Average month he has had around 11 days off at home and that does not include rest days or turn around days. With regards to other long-haul airlines in the UK I think the rosters are fine and its just a hazard with the job. as you know. I have been quite happy so far with EK. In the UK it was always just long haul and could be away for a long time. He has only had one very long trip when he was away for 5 days on a SIN-BNE-SIN. There are a couple of long trips like this but he has had 1 in 6 months. Hope this helps I see you are still wearing your Rose Tinted Spectacles Catty! And long may it continue, however I suspect it's only a matter of time until you see things as they really are (perhaps it will be around the point where your husband only gets 50% of his leave for the year, or where month after month you can't plan anything as you only get his roster 7 days before the month starts, or where month after month he works with the minimum legal days off and works the maximum legal flight hours, or where he misses Christmas/birthday/anniversaries, or where you discover there's been a detrimental change to his contract that wasn't publicised...)

I am always opens to opinions and have been looking at pprune as it has been suggested. Nice to hear both sides. Thank you again

Might worth the check.

'All I wanted was an honest insiders view.' As much as we would like to, unfortunately we cannot give you this on an open forum here which is why everyone is suggesting pprune. I am sorry if we come across as being difficult, we are not, it is just the way it is.

Emirates has deteriotated rapidly and it's not the same airline as it was 2-3 years ago (I'm talking from a staff point of view). PPrune nowadays (unfortunately) gives a realistic view of what's going on. Yes, it used to be full of whinging and complaining people, but at the moment what's being discussed there is the raw truth. Think trice before joining. And if you do, keep your eyes open and be prepared for a wild ride. Hello tomorrow.

...and dont believe the marketing video they show you during recruitment! Lol! Dubai looks like paradise with palm trees and caribbean waters (its not). I would also say read Pprune middle east to get the real truth and not the sugarcoated version that will be deleted off this forum anyways.

Please do take Cherry Ripe's advice and read pPrune as you will be able to deduce a lot from there; probably more than we can put on here. If you don't want to, please get your husband to read it so he is well aware of the working conditions. The main problem I face is lack of leave, especially during school holidays, which can mean no family holidays for a year or two or more. Just because you are told you can bid for peak leave every other year doesn't mean it will happen. If you don't have children, this won't be so much of a problem for you. Don't forget, night flights here are the norm, there is no night ban at DXB. It is difficult to say too much on an open forum; please do read pPrune.
