Loads of seriously wrapped up furniture, chairs and tables, on the paving outside Curry Box and Gloria Jeans this afternoon. Did anyone else notice?

gingercat, I was walking to the mall a LOT in the cooler weather. Quickest walking past Mellennium tower, past the DM metro station I think. Takes about 20 mins. As BM said, your pool opens early and closes earlier, 'my' pool opens later and closes later. So I think there is pool access from 6am-10pm. Latest news on the gyms is mid-july, they have really been working in there so hopefully they are not too far off. Hope the move goes smoothly and just yell if you have any more questions!

Hi Ladies! Hubby and I are moving in to ET on July 1st. Went driving around after work today to get a feel for the place. Managed to find the way to Dubai mall (without Salik) but can't find the way back. Any directions? Also any idea when the gym will be opening? Is it possible to walk to the mall? (when it is cooler obviously) How much should I expect DEWA/Empower bills etc to be per month. (3 bed + maids) Approx?? Also, when I visited last night the pool nearest our building said it is closed at 6pm. (We will be in C Tower 3) Is this always the case? Thanks in advance and looking forward to meeting you all! :)

Great, thanks I'll have a look at the water now. I have been parking on G floor and not seen them but it takes me all my time just to find my car so it's not a surprise. Maybe I'll see you later on in the week if I can prise myself away from the mountain of boxes to be unpacked :D

Waving!!!!! We're in and the aircon is finally sorted out after several very sweaty days. Wonderful friends helped us out with beds and babysitting and unpacking boxes so it's finally feeling like it might be home. Had a wee run around the podium last night, clocked up 5k but met lots of people who looked at me like I was bonkers for running in the heat. Ran up lots of dead ends but managed to have a nosy in a few windows. Who do you use for your water delivery BM? And where are the shopping trolleys in the car park?, I've not spotted any yet. Do we know when the gym is due to open?

Moving In Day = Thursday :D Lost my car in the car park yesterday. Well actually, I lost the door to the car park first and found myself walking around the pool four times by which time I could find neither my villa nor the car park door. Very excited though despite the car park trauma.

hi girls : ) e2be, i agree, you are not overreacting, that man was totally out of place, and that just seems like a weird situation. especially since we both know he is not going door to door asking for water, and since you live on a hight floor, why would he just choose your apartment? maybe the maid knows him and doesn't wan to admit it? when i first moved in the repair guys were always coming in and out and i still remember a couple of their faces, how could i forget, they always left a mess after they left. anyway... recently (about a year after i have had any maintenance men repair anything) i used the elevator, and a guy was in it, he obviously came from a higheri floor and i was on the ground level, so i thought he'd get out when i got in, i mean why hang out in the elevator all day?) but he didn't get out he stayed in and didn't push a floor button and watched me push my floor button. when it came to my floor i got out and saw that he was staring at both me and my baby so i walked to another door just cause my gut was telling me to do so... then the elevator door shut, so i ran into my apartment, quickly grabbed some trash and attempted to run it to the shoot, and literally that was a matter of seconds, when i walked back into the hallway the guy was out side standing by the door where i pretended to go into.... weird huh? i am pretty sure he was one of the maintenance guys from a while back.. but why was he riding around in the elevators and then why did he follow me? i made sure to make eye contact with him so he knew i noticed him.. and i havn't seem him since. he wasn't wearing a uniform or anything... we always should lock our doors, and be a little cautious... weirdos could be anywhere.. and BM, where is south ridge? is it walking distance? and is this spinny's better than the jumeriah one? that where my hubby and i go. ps sorry for all my bad spelling, i have a wild baby on my lap and am typing with hand... edited by julzandrews on 01/06/2011

Thanks so much ladies for the advice. Hubby is off work this week so has been briefed by me to go and report it to the office today, and in so doing to go through what happened with the maid to get the full story again - so she also knows it's a serious issue. I'll follow up with the rules with her tonight - ie what you suggest about not letting anyone in without us being there, and only if there was an emergency (ie medics or fire). Things I thought would be obvious but slow learner that I am - they clearly need to be set out in stone on the fridge or something ;-) Would love to meet up - I do work, but luckily am always around at about 6 ish down by tower J(west 4), with a little blonde scamp on a green and black bike, and me usually in work type gear with red hair. Weekends I am always around and love the pool.

hi Excited2bexpat No you r not over reacting regarding what happened yesterday. In my opinion, security men like any stranger should not be allowed to enter your flat if your not there or without a reason that u agree with (maintenance by Idama for instance). Honestly its not because a man wears security uniform that i would trust him. Also you are right your maid has to better gatekeeper or have a better analyze of which appropriate decision to take in a situation like this. did she invite him to come in?or did he by himself? Report the "incident" to the office can prevent others to happen.I would do the same as a matter of principle but do not think too much of it after that. Just make sure you and your helper agree on basic principles of safety. You have to trust her 100% when you leave her alone at home or with your children. I also live in executive towers and rarely passed by mums in the evening. If you see a lady with apple and brown color push chair that s me! Hi ET ladies - I recently moved in - and have been looking out for all you mums at playtime in the eve - but yet to be brave enough to approach 'cold'. Beyond wanting to make contact with other ET mums - as I have a little lad who would love to be more social after school, I have a bit of a thing which happened yesterday which I want your advice on. We went out in the evening, briefly, leaving the maid in the house. Nothing weird about that. We wouldn't be long, we told her. We arrived back around an hour later to find our front door wide open and one of the security guys walking out carrying a clipboard saying 'water'. We instantly thought 'problem' given it was the security guy and he moved off too sharply for me to question him. So to the maid I ask - what's he doing here - she tells me, he rang the bell and asked to come in for a drink of water and because he was in uniform she thought she should let him in. OK, so two issues: 1) security guards ringing on random houses (on a high floor I hasten to add) after dark at night and expecting to wander in and drink water is plain wrong and unprofessional - its not as if he waited at the doorstep - oh no he was right in the living room? Surely they have their own restroom or whatever and 2) I firmly told the maid that she should never have let him in in the first place and in future not to do this - but that I understood because of his uniform she thought he was ok to come in. Hubby and I went straight downstairs and looked for him. Couldn't find him but spoke to our usual absolutely lovely, salt of the earth guard who knows us. We tried to get him to find him but he couldn't either. So it's been left unresolved. For now. I intend to report to the site office today, and am now wondering whether there is more to it - not good thoughts, I have to admit... Am I overreacting? I hope so, as I have always felt so safe and trusting of the guys in the towers, or would you also be insisting on identifying the guy and him being given a good talking to. We have small kids - so as you can imagine the idea of random men being let in at all hours is totally unpalatable. Recognise that's also the maid's reposnsiblity to be a more firm gatekeeper but still -we all trust the guys in uniform right? sorry this is jumbled as I did not sleep too well last night due to this. any advice I'd be so grateful xxx

Sounds fab julzandrews :-)... can you make decaf? love your name karenblixen, are you danish, did you live in kenya, have you been to her house in kenya. or did you go out with robert redford :) Lol thanks fairwater! No, I'm not Danish although I do love Out of Africa (my favourite film) and I have been to gorgeous Kenya twice. Didn't get to Karen's house but was just thinking about it the other night when watching the film for the umpteenth time. And no, sadly no liaison with RR but have fantasized about that too. KB x
