Has anyone been through the process of getting a mortgage through a UK-based bank while living here? We're looking to buy this summer, ideally a BTL, but haven't received an answer from even one broker! Is it a tortuous affair? Please help! Any recommendations? TIA

Do you mean to buy here or buy in the UK?

If you have a uk HSBC account you can have any of their mortgage products, being an expat is fine as long as you are a british citizen. No, you don't need to be British, that I know for sure, nor do you need a UK bank account. HSBC here used to be able to assist.

Thanks ladies, good info. We tried going through HSBC as we have an account in the UK with them, but were told that they wouldn't give us a BTL mortgage if it as to be let to students, only families. A family of students, maybe? :)

We went through liquid expat mortgages and ended up with a mortgage from Natwest offshore. To be honest the brokers sourced a mortgage for us but think it would have been easier to go directly with Natwest. May be worth checking a comparison site and then contacting a couple of banks yourself?
