Not possibly an entirely grown up, or posh, idea, but....Firenze has the most amazing camping ground. So central...up a hill over looking the town itself. So easy to walk down hill, over the ponte whatsit and you are right there. Weather will be fine for camping and am pretty 'sure' the camping ground has cabins and what not, as well as tent and van sites. *sigh* good good memories. Oh aroha...that sounds like heaven!! Definitely spend a day or two (or ten) exploring Tuscany. Heaven on Earth.

Can't imagine a better holiday. Just came back from Italy and it's brilliant as always. Get a rental Car to explore Tuscany as well. Its the best time of the year to go there, so enjoy!

It's absolutely beautiful, but quite an expensive city to stay in nowadays. Last time we went, we decided to go to a bed and breakfast in the local countryside, part of the Agricola Agrituristica system, a bit like the gites de France, which was fun and better value for money than a central Firenze hotel. I would think October is the ideal time to go there, it should still be very pleasant weather. edited by simpleasabc on 20/08/2011

It's one of the world's most beautiful cities full of some of the worlds greatest art and architecture. And set in wonderful surroundings. An experience of a lifetime. Rent Tea with Mussolini" to get an idea. And the weather in Oct should be fine. edited by Livelytrish on 20/08/2011
