is there any brand of refrigerator in dubai..which can last a decent number of years? We bought our fridge brand new and it needs major repair after just 4 years of use.(what happened to the good old days when fridges use to last for decades). I need something durable as a replacement. Anyone have any good experience with a locally bought brand?

Any 'made in Japan' fridges available here?
Thanks

@wickedangel_78. Thanks for the tip for a shelf in the freezer section as I do need to keep a tray inside to freeze things at times. Unfortunately not enough space in kitchen for a side by side refrigerator. @amelia and Geordie expat...is your Panasonic fridge's model number NRB651? https://www.carrefouruae.com/webstore/Product.aspx?productid=2300&name=PANASONIC_FRIDGE_NRB651#description That's the only one I can see in Carrefour and everywhere else. If you have something different can you share the model number and from where you bought it? Thanks Yes that's mine. If I need to freeze anything on a try I just take the drawer out first, but that's a very rare occurrance. Yes, that's the one I have but it has a 'B' after the number you quote. It has a few small dents in the side which aren't on view. Paid 2,100 so it was reduced by about 1,000. Also paid 90 for an extra years warranty. It seemed to be the same model available in Lulu and Geant, each charging the same full price, but C4 was the only place that had it in stock.

We have a Samsung, I prefer 2 doors, I hate freezers with drawers, we have 2 fridges, one with bottom freezer and the Samsung is 2 doors. If you go for one with a bottom freezer make sure it has a shelf in addition to the drawers. For me the 2 doors is more handy if you need to chill home made juices or place a tray to freeze things before placing them in plastic bags.

Agree with Geordie expat. I too have recently bought a Panasonic from C4 with a freezer at the bottom. Much, much better than the other way round. Had an Hitachi for eight years before this one and absolutely no problems with it. I only sold it to have one with the lower freezer.

Thank you ladies for all your recommendations. Is bottom freezer something worth paying extra for, in the long run? i am looking at few 'fridge at top and freezer at bottom' models, just wondering if they are really useful and practical? Any suggestions? Thanks We've just bought a new Panasonic from C4 with a bottom freezer. Personally I think it's much easier to use as I don't have to keep bending down to get to the salad drawers etc in the bottom of the fridge. Also if you work out how many times you open the fridge door compared to the freezer, to me it makes complete sense. Have the most used door in the most convenient place.

We have a Samsung which we bought just over 10 years ago (from Carrefour in MoE) and it's still going strong - apart from the light bulb in the fridge part which needs replacing but I can't be bothered. I don't know which model it is but it's split with left hand side being freezer and right hand side the fridge. We opted for the version without the built-in water cooler as friends who had the water cooler/ice maker lost cupboard space because they had to store the water bottle somewhere close by. We found it cheaper and easier simply to buy a stand-alone water cooler - and it is one less thing which may go wrong/break - and it really isn't that difficult to fill ice cube trays and keep a plastic box or bag full of ice cubes ready made for parties, and of course the built in ones only supply a limited amount of ice cubes anyway.

I absolutely second Hitachi, purchased a fairly large Hitachi fridge/freezer in about 2004 from their showroom in Bur Dubai, it's a beautiful fridge and still looks like brand new today. We also have a Supra fridge which is now the spare as we out-grew it, hence the Hitachi purchase - it's now 20 years old and never missed a beat.

I have a Hitachi fridge/freezer which I bought 7 years ago which has not had a single problem and is still functioning perfectly despite going through 5 house moves! I also have a Nikai fridge which I bought secondhand also 7 years ago which also still works fine apart from the icebox icing up occasionally.
