This weekend I stopped in the Gap store next to Rain Forest Cafe. The store is stocked full of winter clothes. I mean really cold weather winter clothes of the Sherpa nature. How can that be for Dubai? We arrived in January last year... maybe I missed the big snow. How cold does it get here in the coldest of cold weather?

Assistant in H&M told me "it was all for the Russians". Might be a slight exaggeration but gives us a bit of a clue. Tourists I assume. DH tried to buy mew swimming trunks other day to be told that that season was over - what? Yeah, screw the other nationalities!!! No, they just don't have anything else to sell. They sell what Gap in the US sells, and that is sweaters and hats. And they aren't creative enough to think of a way to use the clothes from the other seasons to make a "winter" Dubai collection.

I can understand why the shops would have a selection of winter clothes for people who will travel to colder climes, but the whole swathes of them they put out are ridiculous. Here they could sell summmer type clothing all year round - but no they put the summer stock away and bring out the winter ones, just as if we were back in the Uk / Europe/ USA etc. M&S reduce all their beachwear to a piddling little amount when this is the time of year when everyone hits the beach / pools here! I think they are potentially missing out on a lot of sales.

Guinness, I see you are back! :P @ Lovelly: Cheaper? Really?!?! Is anything 'cheaper' in Dubai? :/ Yes, back, thanks to Princess I!!! And the only place it is probably cheaper than is Angola, and I don't think they have much need for winter jackets there!

On a related note, some restaurants are advertising their "winter menu" when we havent gone below 20C yet in Dubai! Then again the news paper forecasts refer to 35C as pleasant, and cloudy days of 26C are "unsettled/bad weather" :)

It is ridiculous! If you live in Dubai, you pretty much have to do your clothes shopping in the spring and summer - because the stores bring their winter collections to Dubai without any sort of modification! Gloves? Sweaters? Scarves? Puh leeeez!

There are people here that travel to cold countries so it is really convenient that winter clothes are available here. True... With that in mind; I wonder if these cold Countries have stores over flowing with summer clothes for their travelers. I know for a fact, you wont find a snowsuit or sherpa lined cap in Hawaii ;0)

NOT cold enough for all the winter clothes in stores -_- ditto. I'm fine with a light sweater in the coldest of cold Dubai has to offer. But then again I'm used to very cold winters.

I know - I couldn't believe it when I saw all the winter stuff arrive in the shops. I asked a shop assistant who wears that sort of thing in Dubai, and she said visitors to Dubai...when they get home;-)
