Hello Ladies,
My husband and I are shifting to Arabian Ranches this weekend. I am used to cooking on electric oven and now have to shift to gas one. Can anyone please help me with how to go about getting a connection? I have contacted various suppliers but they do not deliver. Please please help!! also does anyone has any idea on how much it costs to get a new connection? Thanks for your help!! :)

Carla 1: my cylinder also lasts me about 1.5 - 2 months max....so it might depend on the TYPE of food we are cooking....

Thank you so much ladies for your quick responses. I had been looking for one all day yesterday and to my luck I have started getting calls from different gas suppliers - they are general quoting me 490 (ali gas company) or 550 (Al Shafaq gas company) for first time and later 130 for refill. :) Happy days! :)

You will probably find stickers on the gas cabinet outside the villa when you move in, just give them a call and they usually come the same day. Like the other posters say a deposit is required for the bottle then you just ring when you need a new bottle and pay the refil charge. I have had multiple companies leaving stockers so I just ring the one that is there at the time when I need a new bottle. We have two big gas bottles, the spare is a back up if we run out during cooking or on a Friday etc. when it runs out we swap over and call for the empty to be replaced. I also got a smaller one for the BBQ but don't keep a spare for this. I use the cooker everyday but our oven is electric but definitely use the gas hobs everyday and our bottles last a very long time(over a year) edited by Yorky on 31/03/2014

ummm...thats surprising.....i dont use my oven much...so thats not an issue....but i dont think my cylinder has ever lasted me more than 2 months max...maybe i need to keep a diary of "start" & "end" days to see.... Even for us, meal is always home cooked (maybe except few weekends).....but then maybe "our" dishes take longer to cook.....i think if i have to take an average....then maybe my stove is on for 1.5 per day..... Note: A lot of maybes :)

Al Fahidy is in AR every day. Their number is 050 467 0043 (they often give you another number to call for a truck in the vicinity). They will come quickly....same or next day. I'm amazed Carla says a cylinder lasts only up to two months....I love coking and make meals every single day for my family and in the five years I've been in my current villa I have only changed my 'big' cylinder connected to my stove/oven about four times so I'm very suspect if a cylinder only lasts two months. My stove is gas and my oven electric but still that shouldn't account for a cylinder lasting 2 months v. a year or more. I think I probably have my stove or oven on way more than average (I'm ashamed to say). New connection charge is about Dhs 500/600 deposit.....however I just did it to connect a new stove we bought for our maid.....they gave her a MUCH lower price when she called than when I called.

we have a lot of gas trucks roaming around in AR..."Happy Way", "Emirates Gas" and so on..... just call them and usually they r at your doorstep within 2 -3 hrs. I dont remember the deposit you have to pay for the cylinder (maybe 300 - 400 dirhams) but the re-fill is for 120, which ofcourse depending on your usage can last 1.5 - 2 months. It is a good idea to get two cylinders, so you dont suddenly run out of gas in the middle of cooking / dinner time (has happened to me twice while had guests over for dinner)...once one finishes, you can just pop out, turn the lever to switch to the spare cylinder and then call for a refill..... HTHs
