Can anyone give me some advice regarding health insurance yearly premium for domestic helpers? I've been with AXA for two years but for the renewal this year, their plans have been changed in order to be DHA compliant. Trouble is the premium also went up (above 5k) for an insured who's above 40 years old. Is that a market norm? Can anyone share with me what you're paying for your helper's health cover and with which insurer? Or better yet put me in contact with a reliable broker? I honestly thought DHA's initiative was to make healthcare available to everyone and at an affordable price... That doesn't seem like the case for me...

You can get a comparision for all the going rates here http://www.souqalmal.com/ae-en/health-insurance Please do not use this website for Health insurance information. Most of the information are out dated. DHA initiative was to provide very basic cover at cheap price. you can buy such insurance from preferred insurers like AXA, DAMAN, OMAN. All have same product as defined and mandated by DHA. You rightly pointed that Medical cost is very high in this region and you can see in increasing cost of insurance which has additional impact of covers such as pre-existing from day one, maternity from day one due to recent changes by DHA. please contact insurance companies to help you with this. As you are with AXA would advise you to contact them. they are only multinational companies offering wide range of health insurance insurance including the plans mentioned by Nayls85 offered by DAMAN. However you need to be clear that you are interested in plan better than the 150k limit. Key question would be do you wish to buy health insurance for you maid or health insurance for maid's visa? if its later DHA plan has been made for that.

Seriously? It covers an emergency for 150k? I don't think that's a realistic amount at all. When you get any form of health insurance, you need to consider how much a potential emergency treatment could cost. If you have a look at the newspapers here, you can see that many surgeries and care can run the person into the millions. You should not skimp on something like health insurance. I would recommend a minimum of 1 million USD if you are to consider real emergency coverage. Then you can have true peace of mind for these people you are responsible for.

Call up DAMAN they provide a plan for domestic workers and it's 750dhs per annum, covers hospital emergencies and surgeries up to 150k a year. Can't remember details of the general stuff, but it was good. You still pay a little bit for GP appointments and mess, only a small percentage. We were going to get this cover but we didn't hire the person in the end.
