Our pediatrician said our son has a very light innocent heart murmur. She said it doesnt need any further checkup as its quite common but I can go for further checkup if I feel the need to. She said it will not affect him in any way. Would you take your child for further checks? I dont know if I should just follow her advice or go to a cardiologist.

they discovered my heart murmur last year (i'm 39 this year). i never had it as a child so it had somehow developed over the years. i had it checked out by dr binbreck in bur dubai (supposedly the best in his field?). he told me not to worry and i've never had any problems. perhaps just check it out for your own peace of mind. good luck x

I also have a congenital heart murmour which was only discovered when i was about 10 (many moons ago!). Never had any problems...I just had to carry a card and have antibiotic treatment at the dentist before any undergum treatment was made. Don't think they even ensure you have that done now. I honestly wouldn't worry about it unless your son shows any other symptoms of chest pain/breathlesness. HTH x

I have a slight innocent heart murmur, but I did get it checked out with a cardiologist and an ECG to be on the safe side. This was years ago though.
