we are thinking of homeschooling our boy and will like to find out the process ..is it legal ? we intend to return to the usa once he reaches 6 when compulsory school begins but before that whilst we are out here , i intend to homeschool considering how crazy school fees are here ?

how much are school fees for a 2 year old ? American curriculum ?

to answer your question re: school fees, american curriculum, the answer is: exorbitant. homeschooling is legal, and has quite a few followers here in the UAE. i believe another poster here mentioned DUNEHA. check them out. theres a k12 brick and mortar building offering the homeschooling program in a classroom setting i believe in knowledge village, but i have no idea about fees, ages, etc

there a lot of blogs with Montessori homeschool activities. I just bought this ebook http://www.montessoriathomebook.com/Home.html/ with lots of great ideas on what to do at home.

thank you .. i understand that your child has a sibling thus wouldnt feel lonely but my boy is the only son ..do you enroll them in extra curricular classes so they can socialise with other children ? If I understand correctly, your son is only 2-3 years old? At that age I wouldn't enrol my child in any classes for socialization. I would go to parks and play areas...but of course, it's up to you. :) If you reach out to DUNEHA you'll see other parents are able to incorporate socialization with their homeschooling. They organize play dates and outings amongst themselves. My opinion of schooling at 2-3 years old is that learning through play and interaction is more important than any curriculum. There are a lot of stay at home moms in Dubai that do a great job of this. I recommend the blog [url=http://www.sandinmytoes.tk/'>Sand in my Toes[/url'> for some ideas (and moral support!). She has a single child at home and does tons of activities with her kid in lieu of preschool.

Would it be compulsory for him to go in school here, if it's not where you are coming from? There are homeschooling programs, but they are not that cheap. I think it's 17,500 dhs a year and than extra for afterschool activities that's probably minimum 2,500 dhs a year.

Yes homeschooling is legal. If you are planning on moving back to the US before compulsory schooling starts here anyways, it doesn't really matter. My daughter is turning 5 and she has never been to nursery/pre-school in Dubai. I informally homeschool her with no curriculum. I also homeschool her older sister using K12 (American curriculum). It's not really homeschool in the traditional sense, it is more like distance learning and online learning combined. I don't think K12 starts until 4 years old...but you can check with them. Rather than go the K12 route (which is quiet academically rigorous), I would contact Dubai and Northern Emirates Homeschool Association (DUNEHA). https://uaehomeschool.wordpress.com/
