@IAMVP .... its a damn shame that we live in a society that treats people like slaves .. disgusting !!! It is what it is. But changes are happening, slowly.

Well after a bit of research the Philippines government has approved a ban on household workers in Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE because of a lack of workers rights. So not sure she could even transfer to a new job anyway. But as I said earlier given what the OP has said about the family, she'd be banned anyway,

That's exactly what I worry about, how does it work if she doesn't get a release etc. For me to tell the family my thoughts abt how they speak to the maid will probably harm her more than help. I am sure you all agree on that. So I would really appreciate just suggestions on how I really can help. Also don't you all have friends, relatives, aquaintances etc that do certain things you strongly disagree with yes you are somehow involved with them? If you have an idea of what to do in the long run eg report the family (but with no proof) or anything else? I also assumes they will treat their next maid in the same way although this one used to have a day off atleast when she started to work with them. Things then changed later on. They are not obligated to give her a day off. Whatever anyone tells you. I would stay out of it, really. Do they know that she has a mobile? I hope that they do not know you have tried to help her. It is not a good situation to get caught in.

Poor OP, she comes on here for advice, trying to help another human being whom she sees being treated badly and she gets jumped on. Maybe she would love to tell this woman to stuff her job on principal but not everyone has that luxury to just throw a job away, especially in the current climate, and maybe she is doing as much as she can... Good luck Helma, I hope you manage to help this lady, and if you can't, at least you tried. DITTO xx

@ IAMVP .... isnt there the labor courts to help in situations like these? No, domestic servants are not covered by the labor office. She will be banned and sent home. Maids have no rights here unless they end up beaten etc, but even then most just get sent home. This is a lose / lose situation for the maid. The embassy rarely answer their phones, and they have so many maids arrive on their doorsteps every week, who are in dire need of help.

I work 'with' the family and have a great relationship with them. yet you have called them horrible, accused the woman of theft, abusing her power and treating a woman like she is sub human..... and insinuated that they stop her from contacting the family.... Princess do you actually have any positive contribution? Any help or constructive ideas? Well Princess does have a point and it looks like a case of so long as you're alright Jack doesn't it? You might be trying to help the maid, but if they're as awful as you're making out, they're likely to just ban her and send her home.

Helma, Im an American looking for a maid, I have just poted in the classified's for one ... here is my cell number .. tell her to call me 0504526064 .... all I need is for the sponsor to transfer her visa to us IF she is willing to move to Ras Al Khaimah .. and be able to look after our 4 little Yorkies when we travel. Live in, salary starting at 1500 with ticket etc ... will keep this up for a short time due to cell number. Thank you, I will give her the number asap. Hope something will work out. She won't be able to say how to take things on, am sure she will need guidance from you plus I will have her call the embassy too to find out. Thanks so much x

They'll probably ban her, and then she'll be sent home to the philipines. Sounds like she'd be better off with that anyway since she's being so badly treated. If she just wants out then she has to leave one day and go to her embassy.

I work 'with' the family and have a great relationship with them. I have spoken to the maid and asked if I should talk to the parents but she begged me not to say anything which I understand from her side too. Princess, I am trying to help the maid! I think it's not nice of you to try and make me feel guilty to follow a work contract I have with the family.

I would imagine they will be livid with her, and surely will not give her a release. She will be cancelled and banned and shipped off home.

Good idea, I will giver her the number. She won't be able to go there since she works every day but maybe she can already get some information on what to do via phone.

Can she not go and speak to her embassy? You know the Filipino government is going to rule whether to allow its citizens to work as domestic help or not soon.
