Well, duh, u put ur stuff online and pray to god someone buys! ;)
But I want to know how does it actually work?
My SIL and I are planning to start this online clothing store (no not for babies! :P)
But do people actually buy clothes online? How do you get people to view ur online store?
How do all these online stores work? I mean what do they do with the stick that no-one buys?

I know i know, we shouldnt start a business not knowing the basics of online trading, but with 4 young kids between us, we arent really in a position to go and work.. and this is something we both enjoy.. but not sure how the online bit works.
Any advice ladies?

Edited to add: Oh and do we need a license for a small home based business?

Have a look at http://www.etsy.com It may be a good stopgap to trial and you can set up own Online shop at later date, take a stall at ARTE sell direct there and give out info to your etsy shop front.. there are a few UAE traders on etsy.

We are based in doha, and our target is middleeast market.. just wondering if ppl in this part of the world actually buy online. My friends' business was here in Aus so a different market to your target. I guess you just need to get yourself out there. Take the clothes to markets, advertise in local magazines also hitting your target audience, FB page etc. Lol...I'm no business mind so just guessing here. ;) My friends have also gone off on a completely new tangent these days (and not online) so I can't even show you their website.

shaf, friends of mine (here in Aus) had massive success with an online clothing business. Advertising in the right places is the key. They used to go to all of the markets so people could see, touch and try on their clothing and eventually they got a reputation and the business bloomed. At those same markets, they'd sell off old stock at reduced prices...which brought in the bargain hunters who often became new online customers.
