My DS does not receive daily homework but a schedule for the week. He organises his time to hand it in when due. It would prob average out to 10 minutes per day which is nothing That sounds amazing. Which school is he in? My kids are not in school yet and thats the thing i dread most. i never did homework as a kid and think i'll find it hard to enforece homework on them...

There is a study which showed that children entering secondary school having never had homework were generally at the same level as those who had. So it is not about what they do but the fact they are organising their time and doing it by themselves so that they are independent learners by the time they reach secondary.

At their age homework should be no more than 20-30 mins a night...... any more than that is too much. They give homework so children learn to be independent learners

I am not an expert but I would imagine that the purpose of homework is to teach children to work independantly as well as develop a thirst for knowledge outside the school structure
